Sorry if I'm late to the party on this one but I just saw the official letter that 9608G's are EOL by June. I have a J129 from a demo kit that I haven't taken out of the box yet. Is the J line the new 9X0X line? DHCP options and setup going to be similar?

End of Sale, not End of Life. Will be supported for a few more years yet.

The J169 and J179 are the "replacements" to the 96x1 models, but they operate on SIP and not H323 from Version 11 IPO. However they are very similar to the 96x1 in terms of DHCP options etc.

The J129 is pretty useless. Should only be used for a walk up and dial scenario, not for a User. The J139 is a bit iffy too, as it's missing some pretty basic features so best avoided for now.

Make sure you have a proper read of the documentation as there are some gotcha's in there.

I think we're planning on J169's for our standard. Still just regular endpoint licensing with it using SIP instead of H323?

The J139 is a 9504 in SIP form. I haven't seen any missing features from a functionality standpoint, though the background and screensaver images can't be changed, unlike the J179. I don't know prices but personally if price is an issue for the 179 I'd drop to the 169 instead of the 139 as I prefer the 8 button model.

The J169 and 179 are 9608 replacements. The J169 is gray scale and the J179 color plus the 179 has the optional WiFi/Bluetooth module.

I concur with TheSmash that the J129 is best as a lobby phone or a similar use though I do think it is actually a pretty nice unit for that use. With the optional WiFi you can place it anywhere there is power which could save you some difficult cable runs.

Hot desking is a joke on J series phones on Version 11. Anyone tried the H323 load on them then connect to version 11?
