Can someone please explain how the priority on the 46xxxsettings works vs. items set directly on the phone? I'm troubleshooting an issue with poor network performance on some PC's that are connected to a 9608. Our switch ports are all set manually at 100/Full and so we have that setup in the 46xxxsettings file. I see that I can also set it manually on the phone in the CRAFT menu but if I make a change there, will it be replaced by the 46xxxsettings file or is the phone only updated if there is a change initiated on the settings file?

One final question. In the view menu, I can see the Port speed and Duplex for both ports on the phone. Is that showing what they are set to or what they are connected at?

Thanks!

The admin guide will tell you what has the higher priority. But to be honest I never set the phone's port speed and duplex settings.

I think its most commonly used in public areas where you want to disable the PC port so no one can plug in and be on the network.

We have to set it because the switches have it set manually at 100/Full and so if it isn't set on the phone/pc, you will get mismatches where it might connect at 100/half or 10/half etc. Thanks for the tip on the admin guide. Here's the priority in case anyone comes across this:

If a given parameter is administered in multiple places, the last server to provide the parameter
takes precedence. The following is a list of precedence, from lowest to highest:
1. Manual administration. Call server or HTTP server or both are two exceptions for
the phone parameter STATIC.
2. DHCP, except as indicated in “DHCPACK Setting of Parameter Values” in Setting
up the DHCP server on page 67,
3. The 46xxsettings.txt file
4. The Avaya call server.
5. Backup files, if administered and permitted.
6. LLDP: Only the IPv4 mode supports LLDP. Note: Setting the call server and file
server IP addresses have the lowest precedence

Why are they networking like this? The days of fixing duplex settings are long gone, things have moved on to where that's not really required anymore :)
