My customer had a 500 V1 with R4.6 and a ton of 5420 phones. I upgraded them to 9.1.7 and replaced V1 for V2 and swapped out a IP400 mod for a 30 DS V2 IP500 mod. I reprogrammed for scratch and added 4 9508 phones. Everything is good accept 2 of the 9508 phones are stuck in "please wait". I can plug them directly into the system and they work fine but take them down to the other end of the building and they don't. Does any one have any ideas??

Ssounds like wire issue or jack problems if they worked plugged into switch.

So the wiring could cause that? Where they are being plugged into there is a 400' 25 pair tie cable between the suites, but I do have other phones working though. I guess I need to certify the cabling to be sure.

i've seen that if they are connected to an analog port as well.

Yeah I just verified from the tie it works but beyond that it doesn't. I do have a question of how could it even get power if the cable is messed up?

Phones mistakenly plugged into an analog station port will show Please Wait...

Under System settings, System tab check that "Phone File Server Type" is set to Memory Card. If you have moved the config from V1 to V2 I think from memory it says Manager!!

I've double checked that to be correct. I was hoping that was the issue as well but it's not, thanks for the response.

so if they work ok at switch end but not at the jack end then it does sound like a wiring problem as stated already

OK, I'm now going crazy. I've came back to fluke test the cabling and everything is fine. I've plugged the 9508 phone directly into the tie (which is over 800 feet) and it works, but when I add the station cabling to the scenario and plug the phone into the station jack the phone display's "please wait". Then I go back to the tie to plug the phone back in there and now the phone still display "please wait" then I go back to the system and now the system displays "please wait". What is the distant limit on the 9500 series phones if there is any and why would it lock out the port?

QUICK UPDATE.... I rebooted the system and now the locked up "please wait" ports are working. Now I'm going to try and plug back in to the far side of the building again and see what happens.

I've rebooted so many times, it has come down to distance. I know the specs says 3280 feet for 9500s but I'm at 1200 plus and it doesn't work, but under 1050 feet it does work. Also all my 5400s work any where. Looks like I either have a weird batch of phones or I just called AVAYA's specs out!

Just had a similar situation on site, 1x 9508 powered up but would not load firmware. Checked the module and one of the legs of the Blues was loose, punched it down then the phone upgraded!!!
