Last night I switched the NT 4.0 server that was being used as the PDC and DHCP server to another NT 4.0 server. Everything went smoothly and my 2000 Pro machine was able to log into the Domain and process the logon script. The same for another Win98 SE machine.

ALL of my Windows 95a computers are unable to log into the domain or lease an IP address. A couple of them cant even ping using an IP address!!! I tried adding an LMHOSTS file and also a HOSTS file, but it didnt work. I removed Microsoft Networking and then readded it, still nothing. If I give it a static IP address, it will allow me to log into the domain.. but i dont want to do it this way.

Is there something in Windows 95 that keeps a cache (other than ARP cause i tried that)? Is there some entry in the registry that records the settings?

The ip info is stored in the registry. I don't have a 95 machine on hand to remember exactly where it is though. Post your email address and I will send you a freeware util that ensures that everything is deleted from the registry so that the pc will be sure to try for all new info. I used to run it in my scripts at my last job and it greatly cleared up ip related problems on the pcs. Good luck

I would greatly appreciate it.

There is a problem with the Winsock 2.0 installing properly if either the
Year2000 update or DCOM95 are NOT installed first. If you have NOT
installed MSDUN13, install DCOM95 followed by either MSDUN13 or
MSDUN14 and this should resolve your problem. Feel free to remove
the VPN adapter if you do not require it. If you have already installed
MSDUN13, you can revert to your original Winsock 1.0 in order to install
DCOM95 and get IP working again. To do this, look in the Windows
directory for a directory call WS2BAKUP, IT SHOULD CONTAIN 31 FILES.

If you have a "good" folder, there is a catch, the WS2BAKUP.BAT will
not run properly in either Windows or from a DOS prompt. Here's
the way to do it. 1) go to the last line of WS2BAKUP.BAT using notepad
2)go to Start, Run and enter that line complete with path statement
i.e. c:\windows\ws2bakup\delw2reg.exe addafvxd. 3) Restart in MSDOS
mode OR boot to Command prompt only 4) go to the WS2BAKUP folder
and run WS2BAKUP.BAT, you will see a number of files being copied
and attribs being changed. At the end you will see an error of "Unable
to run in MSDOS mode". (The dear boy who wrote the "uninstaller" for
DUN13 either forgot that the TCP/IP files are in use when Windows loads,
or didn't know that delw2reg.exe does not run in MSDOS mode)

IF YOU CANNOT FIND ANY OF THE ABOVE FILES ON MICROSOFT's SITE OR
HAVE A INCOMPLETE WS2BAKUP DIRECTORY, EMAIL ME AND I WILL SEND
THEM TO YOU.
