I have an stk 9310 library. Once in awhile hand 1 fails on a get. I have replaced the following parts. Grippers latest level part number, hand, turn table, flex guide cable. The only thing i haven't changed is the PLS card. Has anyone seen the PLS card cause this problem. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Hello Pollul,

You're having lots of fun with this 9310! You are unfortunate because the bits you have replaced would have fixed this problem 95 times out of a 100 by now. I would swap the PLS with the other side, and also the complete hand-1 with the one on side 0 and see if the fault moves to the other side. Do you know if hand-1 actually reaches out and grabs the cartridge? or does it just look at the cartridge, bobble about and fail. Also, is the customer using HSC? If so, copy and paste all the SLS messages that occur at the time and I will look at them.

When the hand reaches for a cartridge is when it fails on a get never on a put. Here is the SLS information. Thanks Again

I forgot to mention I swapped the pls cards and did a long init.

Also do you know if this part number is the latest for a PLS card 308408019. Thanks

The messages say:

At 15:30 LSM-1 went not ready due to condition 4 which is mechanism failure. This must be because either (a) Hand-0 was already INOP or (b) hand-1 got jammed taking out the cartridge or a hand sensor indicates reach unsafe or similar. The cartridge M00118 was being picked from exterior panel 8. Error 07/10 bad get occurred and the cartridge was returned to its home slot.

The PLS is a possible, but it is normally a hand problem, which you have replaced. Is it possible you have fitted a bad hand? While you wait to see if this is fixed or moved to hand-0 I would get the customer to pull of the logs for previous occurrences and see if there is any patterns. i.e. always on wall 8, always hand-1. Does SLS0665E occur with FSC 2113? This would indicate hand-0 is being lost, which explains why losing hand-1 is making the LSM drop ready.

PS When you replaced hand-1 did you use part number 308747806 or higher? Lower part numbers are not 9840 or 9940 compatible.

By the way, is this the same LSM that was doing the theta sweeps you mentioned on a previous post?

As far as I can tell you have the latest version PLS.

It's never on the same panel or cartridge. yes the hand is up level version. I haven't seen the sweeps again maybe they will do a magic act and disappear. I think you said it best i'm having lots of FUN. Hopefully by changing the PLS the problem will move. If not i'm going to try a hand. Thanks i will let you know.

Well i'm back to having fun again. Nothing personal but i was hoping i wouldn't be talking to you again. Anyway here is what happened today. A 9940 cart got stuck in hand 1, on a get. When i went to get the cart out of the hand it was a qauter of the way out of the cell. I decided to try and push the cart into the hand but it would't go. But when i released the gripper it then retracted back in. I swapped hand 1 to hand 0 to make sure its not a hand because as you said before i'm having lots of FUN.

You mentioned using the latest level part number for the gripper but is the spare hand you used at 9840/9940 compat level? I'm sure 308747806 is the minimum but the higher the better.

Bizare.. I'm seeing the same problem with my 9310/9840's.You mentioned changing the hands, so I'm assuming that when you did you carried out a Long IPL from the LMU?

nunney,

Is maintenance on? Anything in the LMU logs?

Your post was 5 days ago so I presume your 9310 is fixed now. Just thought I would mention that I've seen some really weird and strange get/put problems fixed by replacing the LX card in the LCU. If you catch the problem on the monitor it looks like the hand has had a few drinks. It visits the panel alignment cell to get its bearings and then works OK for a while.

If the machine started life as a 4410 it had all the robotics and some LCU cards replaced when it became a 9310. However the LX was not part of the upgrade and some of them are getting quite ancient now.
