This was also posted in the BCM forum.

I need to pass the 920-803 test within three months. This is the Technology Standards & Protocols for IP Telephony Solutions.

Does anyone have any test prep software experience? It looks like all of the web sites except Global are ripping each other off for the same 55 questions.

Has anyone tried any of the software and liked it?
I bomb on tests regardless of how well I know the topic.
I can spell my name wrong so I need all the prep I can get.

Have you tried them? I am looking for someone that has tried the software.
Thank you

i'm not in a position where i'm require to take the tests, but i have several people who has taken them...let just say...its damn near impossible to fail. you can't fail IF you remember the Q&A

Like the old song "I'm my own Grandpa" I am in a position where I have to decide the certs necessary and I have decided that I need to be more qualified.

I am looking at TestKing now and it looks like I will buy the prep package.
Thanks again.

Thanks,
I checked Certways. They limit access to 90 days, but that is not a show stopper. The problem is they provide no course description beyond "55 questions".

I am certain that the moment I buy something I will get flooded with reasons why something else was a better choice.
Thanks

My next job change will be retirement in three to six years, but until the day I enter logo for the last time I intend to keep up and do my best.

Maybe I can find a place where I can put my B box in the back of a golf cart go off to troubleshoot time and date on a Norstar. The Norstars will probably outlive us all.

NARSBARS, you can always find the questions and answers on the web for free, but I'd bet that being the professional you are you will resist that temptation. I also had difficulty with tests so I always go to Nortel's cert site and take the practice exams first. Then I look for documentation that provide the answers to those practice questions and study it/them thourghly. I then go ahead and take the exams with the goal of passing but with the attitude that if I fail, I will have learned what areas I need to focus on before re-taking the exam. I have passed many on the first try but all the rest on the second try. Keep a log of any area that was on the test, especially subjects where you were weakest and strive to learn all you can in those areas, even if you pass the test. They are on the exam for a reason and undoubtably you'll see the scenario presented in the exam in the field. Those logs will be a valuable source of information later on.
Good Luck!

I won't take it for free. Ethics aside, I might get what I paid for.

Thanks for reminding me! Slaps self upside head! Nortels cert site for practice exams.

Have a star.

That's the problem with these certs, I've been Nortel certified since 2004,way before all these answers for these tests came out.Now guy's with cert's are a dime a dozen, and what do they really now.I admint some of these test are near impossible to pass without some kind of help,I just think certs arent going to mean very much soon.

You are so right, I can program, I can RTFM and get an answer. But I could lose a job to an expert test taker.

My upper management wants me to hire certified people. Never mind experienced with Nortel. They think that a Cisco cert means you can run TDM and VoIP because TDM is so much simpler.

NARSBARS

that is everywhere.. i do both and it's almost impossible to teach a cisco tech a tdm switch.. they want to boot it first, then call tech support if it will not come up..

So have you found any material or website that has been helpful? I am also looking to take the exam soon. Does anybody know approx. how many questions the exam is?

I have found a bunch of tests with poor english, bad grammar, and lousy formatting.
My conclusion is that unless someone gives me a great recommendation I can not trust the answers. It looks like each of the companies is ripping off the answers from each other. The ones that promise explanations, don't have any.
The only use for these test that I can find is to take the questions and look up the answers. Now if I can find out how to look up the answers without a multi thousand dollar Global Knowledge course I will be all set.

NARSBARS

90 percent of the answers are on this forum.. best bet, take the test, then you will know were you need to concentrate your time. a jr tech here passed the 1st 3 test on the 1st try. from what i saw of the one global course he did take, it may be faster then reading the book yourself but just. your questions here are a long way off, you have the basics and them some.. read all the prompts in the cdb. and spend some time on things you don't see everyday.. if you don't do a lot of trunks, brush up on that..

The word according to johnpoole"

If johnpoole says it, I believe it. I am going to do some brush up and pay for a test out of my own pocket. Then if I need to, you are right. I will know what to do.
Thanks for pointing out exactly what I should have known in the first place. No shortcuts, do the work, learn the topic.

The practice test they provide are the actual (word for word) test you'll be taking.

My previous company, all of the tech were told to memorized the practice. Then came test day, every single one of them would score 96-100% even though half of them couldn't spell PBX if you spotted them the P and B.

use testking practice test as a study guide, they'll give you an insight to what kind of questions is being asked and look up the answer yourself. You have the ability to just show the question and not the answers.

let your moral compass guide you from there...

NARSBARS...just my 2cents worth when you take a test
what are you really getting a certification of completion
or certified on the product ?they have both test now
one is alot harder then the other.

no problems only solutions
