911 notification?

I know that some of the call accounting systems available will trigger an alarm if a user dials 911, but does anyone know of someway to alert via email or otherwise one or more extensions when a user dials 911 on IPO?.

Come on Avaya - on the Magix PBX systems, if an extension dialed 911 and there was an alarm button programmed on the operator console, it would at least light up to indicate the system had an alarm -

Have something in IPO that would do something similar

E911 System Settings



The central office routes 911 emergency calls into a dedicated emergency network. The calls are then distributed to the correct emergency operator by using either the automatic line identification information (ALI) received with the emergency call or the registered billing address of the line on which the call was made.

E911 is system whereby emergency calls are routed through an E911 Adjunct with adds additional location information to the call based on the . Support for this is only available on control units shipped with a U-Law default and set to United States locale.

The use of E911 may be mandatory in some locations and may include the provision of an adjunct owned and managed by a third party or the central office.


Dial Emergency Short Codes
On all IP Office systems, regardless of locale, system and or ARS short codes using the Dial Emergency feature should be created for any required emergency service numbers. Those short codes should be useable by all users from all extensions. Those short codes should route the calls to suitable lines. If the system uses prefixes for external dialing, the dialing of emergency numbers with and without the prefix should be allowed. Note that the blocking of emergency numbers or the routing of emergency numbers to a intermediate destination other than the emergency network may be against local and nation laws.

For systems with a United States locale, the Dial Emergency short code acts differently. Calls matched to Dial Emergency short codes are routed using the details contained in the E911 forms. This routing will then be either via installed E911 Adjunct equipment or via grouped set of trunks and extensions called zones.



· Emergency Dialing without an E911 Adjunct
If E911 is not enabled, all emergency calls are routed using the zones configured on the E911 | Zones form. By default all lines and all extensions are added to a default zone and the first available line is used for emergency calls.

1. Ensure that the appropriate Dial Emergency short codes have been configure either in system short codes or in an ARS form.

2. The lines used to route an extension's emergency calls must be correctly registered to the physical location of the extension.

3. Create E911 Zones for each registered location. Include the extensions and lines that serve that location in the zones settings.



· Emergency Dialing with an E911 Adjunct
An E911 adjunct is an additional piece of equipment. It holds a database of location information based on the base extension number passed to it by the IP Office. Connection from the IP Office is by loop-start analog trunks. The adjunct is then connected to the central office's 911 emergency network by CAMA (Centralized Automatic Message Accounting) trunks.

When E911 is enabled and operating, all Dial Emergency calls are routed to the adjunct. The base extension ID is used to add the appropriate location information to the calls ALI before passing it to the emergency network.

· If Dial Emergency calls cannot be routed to the E911 adjunct due to congestion, the IP Office will automatically fallback to using the E911 Zones.

· The E911 adjunct includes an alarm switch that can be connected to an IP Office analog extension port. Dial Emergency calls will fallback to using E911 Zones if the E911 adjunct indicates an alarm.

If you are using E911 with an E911 Adjunct, the following needs to be administered:

1. Ensure that the appropriate Dial Emergency short codes have been configure either in system short codes or in an ARS form.

2. On the E911 Adjunct tab select Enable.

3. In the Adjunct Trunks list select those trunks that are connected to the E911 Adjunct.

4. In the Alarm Station field, indicate the extension number of the user to which the E911 adjunct's alarm connection has been connected.

· On an operator or security extension, a programmable button can be set to monitor the status of this user. That button will then indicate in use (busy) when the E911 adjunct is in its alarm state.

5. E911 Zones should still be configured. These are used if the IP Office cannot seize one of the Adjunct Trunks or the Alarm Station is busy (indicating a fault with the E911 adjunct connections).

I'm thinking of a display message and strobe the message light on selected stations - with single touch for call details. Even though you could do something with SMDR, that record only appears when the call is completed. Our healthcare facilities would like to know immediately if a 911 call has been placed.
