We are closing down our office in New Jersey and pulling out our old G3 switch.

Now it turns out that one department of five people is going to stay in the building. With no switch or CO lines in the building we plan to give them IP softphones and run over the data network to our main S87xx switch in Durham, NC.

There will be one data circuit to our network in the building. It is using a Cisco 26xx router in the NJ building. The softphones will route back to our 87xxs in NC and route out of trunks here in NC.

Right now 911 calls from the NJ softphones will route to Durham, NC 911. How do I provide NJ 911 service to the NJ people for emergency calls?

We had the same dilemma and other than installing a RED phone, the only thing we came up with was installing a G150 with a couple of MBLs in it which are used for 911 calls only. Good luck. If you find a better solution, please share it. Jean

Yeah, just get them a local POTS line and hook it up to a "red" phone. You can turn off all outgoing local and long distance capabilities.

I've got an actual "RED" phone solution in place too, it's got a HUGE sticker on it that says "911" and it's mounted on the wall right next to the door.
