So the system (406) comes with preprogrammed 911 shortcodes.

[9]11 and [9]911.

At the clients' request they want to exclude [9]11 as they seem to be 'accidently' calling the police too often. However, I cannot seem to delete the shortcode as it is apparently imbedded. They will go forward with [9]911 as their solution

Is there a way to not allow [9]11?, and if so, should I get a waiver of some sorts before implimenting the client's request?

Thanks

With emergency services always always get a waiver.
Always think along the lines that a 3rd party to the company may need to make an emergency call (ie contractor) and can't.

If your emergency shortcodes are embedded (never heard of this but I am in region EN) try making the feature busy rather than dial emergency. OR some thing a bit more trick, if you have VM Pro point the above shortcode to a VM Module and either make it say redial using 9,911 or make them press a 1 to confirm they are wishing to dial the emergency services.

Thanks so far....as far as 'imbedded', I simply meant that I cannot attempt to point it to busy as you suggest as the shortcode has both the "code" and "feature" fields greyed out. And like I stated, the short code is undeleteable. Also, I cannot point it to voicemail node for the same reason as above. Any other tricks?, and thanks for the heads up as I will be getting a waiver signed before this ever goes live.

I kind of like the idea of needing a prompt to call 911, as long as it is fairly quick.

I have no experience with other regions. But are you logging in as an Administrator to that system?

Also what version are you using out of interest?

Yes, on the administrator portion...Version is 5.2(54)

Thanks.

The reason you cant remove it is because it is dial emergency. Try to modify the dial type then click ok. once you cahnge the dial type you can delete it. it is a pain but this is the only way to remove it.

Change the telephone field, this should open it up to change the feature, then you can delete it.

By Dial type, I assume you mean the 'feature' field which is set to 'dial by emergency'. This field is greyed out and cannot be changed. Thus, no way to change and delete.

Thanks bearcity. Now that the issue of removing it IS an option, I would like to offer the client a second idea. Is there a way to have the [9]11 call go to a prompt, that says press 1 (or anything) to dial emergency? Something we record if necessary?

Not too urgent, but would like to have as many options to present that I can.

You've got E911 enabled. I guess that is your issue (We don't have E911 in the UK)

I'd reckon you are on a loser with this. Is it truely wise to "disable" access to emergency sevices with or without a waiver (bear in mind that most / all phone systems will allow an emergency call from an otherwise all calls barred phone)

This one smacks of people trying to use "Technology" solution where a people centric solution is more appropriate. i.e. don't prevent people from dialling 911/999/112 but give them a severe bollocking if they do so without a good reason.

My thoughts...

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Heah, I am agreeing with you guys...I want no part of implimenting this. I believe once I scare my client with the waiver thingy, they will think twice about this solution

Don't know if this is a new topic, but say they accidently called 911, how can I tell who did it. I currently have no CTS in place.

Install Delta server - it will log all the calls to a CSV file . Pain to dig through but it'll do

Change all of your dial out shortcodes to 8 instead of 9. And retrain the users.
