Hi All

Have Searched here and rest of the web to no avail, I cannot get around a 'Not authorised to access this item' when trying to back up a NT4 server from Win2000 media server.

Am using the remote administrator account, have reinstalled locally from the cd, am darned sure we do have enough licenses... Help!

Properties of the remote server from BEWS does not show the agent as running, although it definately is.

Does anyone know what I could have done wrong, or even how to find how many licenses BEWS thinks I have? It shows that the remote agent serial is there, not that I have a 5 license pack though!

Any ideas appreciated

Bob

Can you post part of the job log?
Also, can you ping the NT server by name and does it resolve to the correct IP? Check on the NT box for beremote.exe make sure its 9.x for the file version

Cheers for replying setveot

Ping - couldn't but can now i've added it to the hosts file. However BEWS let me add the server as a User-defined selection without complaint just by using the name...?

Which part of the job log, as ours are very big?!

BEremote.exe is version 9.1.4691.0, installed from the same dist as the media server. Service is running on the NT server, but BEWS won't pick that up when right click properties in the selections window.

thanks again

Bob

Right, becuase there is a DNS/WINS/Browsing issues in the network. If you can back it up by User defined Selection , then you should be ok.
If you goto My Network Places I bet you cant see the remote servers there either.

The media server is in a W2K AD domain, complete with DNS (no WINS anywhere here!) but the NT box is not. I can browse to it through Network Neighbourhood but could that be because it is now in the hosts? I can't remember for sure but I don't think I could browse to it previously...

Will try removing the selection and adding it again using the IP address too.

Thanks again
