I just went and installed a Xerox Phaser 8550 today. Got it set-up on all the machines, and everything appeared to be working. Then the owner asks if this printer will print from DOS. I assume that it will, but here is the situation. They are all running Win XP pro on a small network. They have one machine (that is far away from the printer) that runs a DOS program, and they need to be able to print from it. As of this point, it is not working. I guess my first question would be, Is DOS capable of network printing? This PC can print fine from XP, just not from the DOS program. Then, how do I go about setting this up? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, and have a nice day!!!

Hi
if they had two pc's you could share out the network printer on pc 2 and net use to that share on pc 1. That way pc 1 will be able to print to a 'lpt' port (via net use command) from dos

The new printer that I installed is hooked up with a network cable, so I don't think that would work. Also, I don't know if their software would allow that. Thank you, though!!!

read your DOS manual on the NETUSE command. I believe you can force a network ip printer to use a "mimic" LPT1 if you tell it to do so. I did this over a terminal services connection before.

Good Luck
