Our Xerox Phaser 8550 is asking for yellow ink when it is full. Any suggestions?

Are you using genuine Xerox ink? More than likely you need a ink loader assembly...

Thanks for the response:)

We use non OEM ink, Media Sciences specifically. Turns out they warranty any damage to printer if caused by using their ink. Spoke to someone on their support team and they walked me through fixing the problem. Too bad more companies aren't this willing to assist their customers.

Cheers,
Richard

Here is what they sent me via email.

Media Sciences inks for the Xerox Phaser 8500/8550/8560/8560MFP printers and Xerox brand inks will occasionally fail to slide down the chute properly and cause any of the listed errors such as “Out of Ink” or “Low Ink” when there is more than 25% of ink left and 09,XXX.XX error codes. This is not a non-Xerox ink issue only. Built into the diagnostics is a method for recovering from this error. This procedure will not work for incorrectly installed ink or hardware issues. To perform this you will need approximately five minutes and you will need to enter the diagnostic mode on your 8500/8550 printers or service diagnostics mode on the 8560/8560MFP printers. Revised 11/27/2007

1) While pressing and holding down the Up Arrow button, press the OK button to display the Service Tools Menu.
2) Scroll using the Down Arrow button to Enter Diagnostic Mode and press OK button. The printer will appear to shut down. It is restarting. Give it time. It may take up to three minutes. Press OK button at the Caution prompt to initialize the printer.
3) At Test: 00 no test selected, scroll using the Down Arrow button to Test: 75 Clear Fault History or Clear ISC Fault, press OK button to run the test and press OK button at prompt to confirm. The test will only take a few seconds to complete and return back to the current test.

5) Press the RED C button to return to the Test: 00 no test selected, scroll using the Up Arrow button to Test: 01 Exit Diagnostics, select OK button to exit and OK button to return to customer mode.
6) The printer should restart, warm up and perform as normal. Should you have further issues please call the service department at 888-223-2785.

Enjoy:)
