8500 dterm series I the message lamp on the display flashes and the phone rings if i reset the phone in software it stops but comes back? thanks for your help

8500 message light flashes and rings

This sounds like the OPPOSITE of your problem because it applies where there WAS a DtermIP and went to a DT700 but it might shed a little light on the problem. Maybe try using FEATURE + 3 to change the ring tone? Might shake things up a bit.
From NTAC:
This problem was caused after a DtermIP had been deleted and a DT700 programmed on the same LEN. Before the DtermIP had been deleted, that terminals user had changed the ringer tone by pressing FEATURE + 3. This information was stored in the memory for of the LEN after the DtermIP was removed. Once the DT700 was connected to that LEN, the saved ringer tone was not compatible and made one continuous ring.
To correct the problem, connect a DtermIP to the LEN and set the ringer tone as "01".
