How folks, we have a 850DP with 200,000 + copies so getting a few old age difficulties so purchased an 8200 with 20,000 copies on only it was a B and not a DP,

how difficult and what would be to cost of upgrading from a "B" to a "DP" ???

Thanks for the assistance

Regards rttech

On the rear of the printer, there is a board that you can remove. It holds the memory, and a little 8 pin ROM chip. The 8 pin ROM chip is your printer's configuration. B, N, DP etc... You can either swap the entire board as is, which may be easier, or swap just the memory, and ROM chip.

Thanks Timothy,

we can upgrade the memory and hard drive as well I think and we are interested in hearing from some one who can assist with DP bord and hard drive

We hope this request does not contravene the web page rules,

thanks for the assistance Timothy and regards Rob S

I have also purchased an 8200N with only 700 pages on it and I have now purchased a defunct 8200DP so that I can use the duplex/hard disk elements. This has a clogged printhead, not sure why the owner didn't just replace it.

Is the duplex mechanism common to both machines or is there a mechanical element apart from the prom and memory which needs to be transferred.

I await your answers with interest.

Our situation as well Kitty except the "broken" 8200 hard to find in Australia, We asked the repair people and I got direct from the tech mouth, no difference only firmware which you have already got, swap the two areas over and you will have a DP,
this got us because physically the two printers were identical, I purchased and powered up and it was a B,

we use a 860 DP as well and the 8200B cut the ink cost by 50% but it is only on 1000 dpi and the 860 on 1200 dpi just kills the 8200 for quality

One nice point of the 8200 is the fast warm up.

the 8400 does not appear to deliver 2400 dpi making the 8200 the best

The printhead can be very expencive if you have to actually pay for it. If you are using 3rd party, Non-Xerox ink, most will come with a warranty that will cover printhead replacement. Be warned though, the NonXerox ink can be BAD for these printers. We have an older Phaser 850, and have had no problems with it. We were low on ink, and rather than wait for the Xerox brand ink, we had some ink from a 3rd party who I will not name here, and about 1 week after using the nonXerox ink, we now have some clogged jets.

The duplex unit is the same in both printers, and is installed in even the base model, it's just disabled by way of the ROM chip on the main board. The ROM chip is how the printer determines if its got the duplexer, or Hard drive, or network, etc... You'll need to change this little 8 pin ROM chip off the main board, when you bring over the HDD and whatever else.
