I have an 81c that randomly crashes about once a month.

How do i go into the switch to look for errors or anything else that might cause it to crash? I can prt the info and post up just need to know where to go for it.

all phones show extensions but no dial tone. so i reset everything and i am good to go again for a few weeks. I am tired of the late night call and just want to find a solution to the problem.
Thanks

FYI,

This is from an OLD bullitin (2001_097)from NORTEL for 25.30

********************
LD 11 – Digital Telephones
MOV command can be used to move digital “IPE” telephones from one loop, shelf, card, unit to
another lscu with the following restrictions (includes moves across Superloops):
- ACD sets must not be moved. Remove (out) data and re-enter at destination.
- Cannot be used for Option 11C model sets

MOV command can be used to move digital “EPE” telephones from one unit or card to another, but
does not support moving these phones across shelves or loops.

There USED to be issues with the move command in the past, like in this bulletin.....

The only issue I have had in the past was with 500 sets but I think that was back on release 23 and only had problems when upgrading the PBX software. There was a bulletin on that but I can't put my hands on it now.

I too have used this command along with set relocation with no troubles at all. Like it was said in previous posts you have to be careful with HOW you use the command. I have even used the move commands on analog trunks but they have to be in the same loop.

I have used MOV on trunks regularly when I found one to be bad into a Test Route until Telco fixed it. I have also MOV 500 and Digital sets. Back in the old days you could also MOV data from one CUST to another, but Nortel removed that one.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

well, i never have issues moving phones...

but i am waiting for the switch to drop again so ican try and get a error log and do a soft reset instead of full shutdown.

Without the MOV command life would certainly suck.

in my past lifetime at least it feels like it I worked with a company here in Baltimore called Wiltel/Williams and whatever they are now but i swear all the senior PBX techs. at the time always said to never use the MOV or CPY command and this is already after i'd been using these commands. I guess my point is like some others here use the MOV command all you want except if it's an ACD set, even though I have done it b4 w no issues...

Worst case scenario with the MOV on an OPT11 25.40 just had to reload a switch..... used the mov command and the TN that it was moved FROM somehow got a phantom 2317.... could not out it, could not change it....nothing.... just reset the pbx and all ok after.....

NORTEL stuff isn't perfect, but if they did not want you to use the command they would remove it. (or better yet make you put in a patch to remove it....!!!)

Back in 1980 to 1984 I worked for Nortel in Richardson, TX as the Sr. Tech for Texas and I was one of the people that I guess started the story about making changes on ACD sets and using the MOV Command because we would get calls from customers wanting to know why something happened and if we didn't know the answer, we woud ask them, Did you CHG or MOV an ACD set?. Thats what caused the corruption. at the time it got the customer off our back's and let us get back to work. and even now when I call Nortel, I get the same old run around did you do this or did you do that when they don't know the answer to the problem. Like I said in another post, at one time back in 1979 on X7 ans X8 I think it was you could MOV Sets, Trk and RDB across CUST, but the removed it. I guess the one's that are true now they don't let you do anymore like CPY an ACD but it let's you MOV it.
