I have an 81c that randomly crashes about once a month.

How do i go into the switch to look for errors or anything else that might cause it to crash? I can prt the info and post up just need to know where to go for it.

all phones show extensions but no dial tone. so i reset everything and i am good to go again for a few weeks. I am tired of the late night call and just want to find a solution to the problem.
Thanks

What do you mean by crashing, that's not a Nortel term.

The system should be outputing errors to the main term, does anyone look at these?

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

You can go to LD 22 and print the history. Its something that should be done on a daily basis by someone. It will give you indications of troubles, errors, and events.

ld 22
req=prt
type=phst(since last history)
or
type=ahst (will show entire history buffer)

Go through that, look up errors you see, look up bug codes if any, doing this the long way will teach you as you go.

Does this happen at night or during the day?

what do you mean by reset everything, what is everything and how are you doing it?

I had this problem with an Option 61. The customer removed a piece of equipment that had CDR records going to it and did not inform us. The switch began to crash periodically. Nortel ETAS finally figured out what it was. Make sure you do not have CDR records or errors building up and crashing your switch.

If it's not broke, don't fix it. This might be the way, this is Nortel.

right on. i'll check it out and try to start making a daily log of these error files. Sorry for the late reply. Wife ahd to visit the hospital.

Thanks. I'll get back to you.

it usally happens late at night or early morning. I'm pulling that report now and will review through it and post back what i find.

but what happens is i get that call that all phoens are dead. both analog and digital.

so i reset the switch. pull all the covers off and power it down. once i power back up all works again. I know this isn't the solution to the problem which is why I am reaserching it.

Thanks for the help.

See if you are buffering CDR records as this eats up call registers. Sounds like you are running out of them.

Or the MIDS are testing the TDS and finding it bad and disabling it. Check the TTY prints for the MIDS and post here. An INI might have restored it without going to the extreme of turning everything of an back on and todo a sysload you don't need to take all the covers off and turn everything off, just hit both reset buttons to sysload.

could be around a 1000 reasons for that to happen... call reg;s would be one that i would look at 1st... instead of the magic button have you tried scpu? when your down can you login?

couple of things i check if my buffers are correct.. one is lots of sets with the same scx key.. i have seen that happen when a tech programs a large switch as if it is a keysystem.... complete depts with the same 4 or 5 scr/scn keys... ring cycle hits 20 phones on 10 ipe's across x number of groups... so one call can tie up 100 plus call registers during the full ring cycle... if your not getting a lot of sch/bug codes, then it's not usually hardware... it could be just running out of ram as well, does the keyboard respond very slow? can you scpu during peak traffic?

are these problems during midn, that could point to another problem.. is lamp audit on? are you backing up cp during midn>? if your using procomm do a capture every night to catch any pre or post clues... all of those can help point you in the right direction.. since the problem has survived a restart it is not going to get well by itself.. how many stations/trunks/ipes/groups.. might get a clue there as well.

never ignore a sch or bug code

those are pointers, nortel loves to hide the information in 6 million pages of information, but that's the nature of the beast..

Basically we have a person who is totaly unqualified to be even touching this system. If you don't know where to see the Error output You should Call a Nortel Vendor.

Sorry about some of my posts today, life hasn't been good.

Another question is have you been using the MOV or CPY alot of phones. I use CPY quite often with little to no problems, however MOV will cause nightmares. Are you using it?

If it's not broke, don't fix it. This might be the way, this is Nortel.

I have been using the MOV command for 27 years and I have never had a problem.

JP problem is he isn't using the magic button, he's flipping all the switches, when one of them breaks and he can't turn it back on then he will need to call a Vendor.

Ace the question was ask to bhorocks. I don't need some smart mouth junk from you. JP seems to help people with their problems without the chip on his shoulder. Lighten up and find a little joy. I was just sharing my experience with the MOV command to try to help.

Yeah he's going to power that down one day and thats gonna be it lol

I don't find starting rumors as helping. Usually if a person has problems using the MOV command it's because they don't know what there doing in the first place and shouldn't be giving advice to other people. it seems to me your the one that has the chip on there shoulder and can't take any criticism. and also when you make a comment your making it to everyone that reads it.

Come on guys, we all depend upon each other out here every day.... Ace, sounds like you need a long vacation..... But nortelfoneguy, in Ace's defense, he did say he is having a bad day! It's 5 o'clock somewhere!

never had a problem with the MOV command here either, just don't try it with ACD and no issues.

I can't understand why anyone would condone telling people not to use the MOV command just because he had a problem with it.
