Our HP8100 typically prints jobs from tray2. But as soon as somebody uses the letter head tray1 and leaves it open with paper, all new print jobs will default to tray1 and when it runs out of paper it does not go back to tray2.

How can I force print jobs to go out of tray2, and only use tray1 if the user specially directs the print job to it?

First, you want to be sure that your tray 1 setting is not set to first - set it up so that it thinks it is just another tray. Next, the printer is thinking that you have plain paper installed in tray 1 instead of letterhead - see if you can set tray 1 to letterhead instead of plain on the tray menu. You may have to do some adjustments on the print drivers on each machine so that they actaully REQUEST letterhead instead of plain paper - that way, when they load paper in tray 1 the printer will know it is special paper and should defaullt back to tray 2. If the print doesn't move back to tray 2, what message do you get? If the printer thinks it is printing on plain paper from tray 1, it should go back to tray 2, but again setting tray 1 to tray instead of first may help with this.
