Hi All,

Here it goes.... A friend of mine bought a K7S5A Pro mobo,AMD CPU, Power supply and a new HDD because the power supply on his pc blowout along with most of his peripherals. I installed win2k on the new components and it worked. I then shut down the pc and added his sound card from the previous pc(even though the mobo had an intergrated sound card). As soon as I turned the pc on the sytem froze. Now, when I turn the computer on I get 8 beeps which means an error with the video card as per the manufacturer. I've tried everything, switching the video card and memory, changing the battery, resetting the bios and I still get the 8 beeps. The HDD, CDRom, and Floppy are not currently connected. Im ready to give up. Are there any last suggestions out there? I would really appreciate them.

thanks,
nel

Did you disable onboard sound through BIOS??

Did you try putting the sound card in a different PCI slot??

At this point, I would just rather go with the onboard sound. The only problem is that now im getting 8 beeps continously when i start the computer and I have a blank screen. I've changed the video card several times as per the manufac, but to no avail. Can I try something else?

Thanks for your help!!!

This may sound far-fetched, but I read somewhere (someone who was having the same issue as you, same board, same number of beeps during bootup) that he had to push the video card down into the PCI slot very hard, making sure that it was in all the way (after trying like 3 cards).

8 beeps:
Display Memory Read/Write Failure:
Indicates a memory error on the video adapter. Try re-seating the video card. If it still beeps, try replacing the video card or the memory on the video card.

Murray

Check to see if the card is compatible. Older sound cards give me a lot of trouble like that. IRQ conflicts.
BTW you're adding a sound card because?
