Running Mcafee 8.5i onVISTA home premium.
When I right click the icon in the task barand select disable on access scanner it is grayed out.
I have opened the console and in access scanning unchecked prevent mcafee services from being stop also unchecked it in common standard protection any ideas?

That is interesting. I've always unchecked the Prevent McAfee Services from Being Stopped and then disable the McShield service to get VirusScan to stop scanning.

Just as a check, if I uncheck the Prevent McAfee Services from Being Stopped and disable Access Protection on my PC, my Disable menu item is also greyed out. When I deselect the Blocks for all the Access Protection features associated with the McAfee processes, the disable option is still greyed out.

So what I see also matches what you've observed as well. Hopefully someone will chime in who may know if this is normal. (I haven't had the chance to read the complete documentation yet. Deployment to our PCs haven't commenced either and is limited to just my PCs.)

I turned it into prime support waiting to hear

Support says a patch is in the works

Russ Shoemaker

Another patch. Doh!!! Sounds like it will be another 3 to 4 months before that patch will be released.

ya just about the time my grant expires

A fix.
-open control panel> user account> make sure 'user account control' turn-off or uncheck or disable

if that doesn't resolve, need to manual uninstall and reinstall vscan

-visit knowledge.mcafee.com and type article: 612722

Has anyone got a fix for this yet?
this is what I was told. But it didn't bring the Start Stop back to "life".

1. Select or Identify the server\workstation (in which you want to enable / disable On Aceess scan timely) from the ePO server.
2. Click on the policies Tab.
3. Click on the Access protection policies.
4. Make sure all the settings are default i.e both the options are checked. (No changes required).
5. Edit the On Access General policies.
6. Change the settings for Server\workstation (On the top).
7. Uncheck both the option under General
A) Enable On Access scanning under system Startup.
B) Enable On Access scanning when the policies are enforced.
8. Click on Apply and then close.
9. Send an agent wake up call and make sure the policies are enforced for the server(in which you want to enable / disable On Aceess scan timely)
10. Reboot.
11. Open the Virus scan console (Probably afer 5 minutes of policy enforcement) and select the On Access Scan and it will be highlighted.

It will be fixed with oatch 4 due out in mid october

Thanks. The only way arouund this Ican see unless someoen else knows or Platinum support come up with a fix is to extend the agent enforces policy locally every 10080(mins) for testing without OA enabled.

I hope that is a typo for Patch 4 in October. I hear Patch 2 was scrapped as it BSoDs PCs and they are now working on Patch 3. I hope they don't already know that Patch 4 is already required as Patch 3 doesn't fix all issues.

Nope, that's NOT a typo. I pounded on Gold Support again today, as a couple of issues that were addressed in "Patch 2" are holding up planning a deployment of 8.5 for me. Reply was that Patch 4 is a roll-up of everything that was supposed to be addressed in 2 & 3. Release date is mid-October.....

And they've made a liar of me yet again! After Gold Level told me to go fish 'til 8.5 Patch 4 is released in mid-October, I found Patch 3 posted on the Service Portal today. Someone needs to get their stuff together......

Patch 3 released today patch 4 mid OCT
