We have a 8/24 at a site that loses power a lot. The system started losing it's programming a few weeks ago.
we replaced the memory caps in the software sleve. It still looses programming after an extended power outage.
Does any one know how long it should retain programming?
Is the programming held in the v-ram cart. or is it held in
the 8/24.

If you have the 2-piece cartridge programming is stored in the data cartridge. I have seen systems hold their programming for several months, but they should hold for at least several days when fully charged. How long does yours retain programming?

I'd suspect that they are getting a power surge which corrupts the data and forces it to reset. I'd suggest putting the system at minimum on a line conditioner, or even better a battery backup.

Isn't there also a battery in the KSU itself that sometimes needs changing ?
(VERY possible i'm thinking about another cabinet altogether)

exsmogger is again correct. Like him, we've also observed these holding programming for many months. Power could possibly be the culprit, but if it holds programming for up to 24 hours, it could be the ~new~ caps, too.

ox32's have the battery in the ksu.

The 824 does have a cap on the motherboard, but once you get to DR3 the caps in the data cartridge take over. It is possible the caps haven't fully charged yet, but if the 824 has been powered uninterrupted for at least 24 hours straight this should not be the case.

Thanks for the info. We are trying to get them to put a U.P.S. on the system.
