We have an 8.1.67 system, getting phantom ringing every 15 minutes or so.

We have trunks coming in on a ATM4 combo card, 3 out of 4 trunks are connected. 4th trunk is out of service.

So far we have:

Set impedance matching
Set busy tone detection to system frequency
Set ring persistency = 200
ring off max = 5000
Disconnect clear = 90
Gains = 0db

Any ideas please on how to troubleshoot further?

Can you detect which line is sending the "phantom ringing?" How many phones have the line appearance?? Is that happening in phones without line appearance?

If you do a search you will see you are not the first to have this issue. It appears there is an issue with this and 8.1.67. Seems like the message waiting indicator on the line is being detected by the IPO and causing the ring. Not sure if there is a fix yet.

With FP (8.1(63) to (67) it will not be addressed until 9.1. You can downgrade to 8.1(56) or 8.0(44). Beware if you are using SCN and VM Pro, as 8.1(56) has bugs.

Provider (cable, fiber) sends refresh info on the trunk; IPO interpret this as caller ID and rings the trunk. If you have embedded VM, it will pick up and tie the line. It's the same if you use provider's VM, has the MWI sent by CO will be interpreted has an incoming call, when there is a new message, and after you clear the box it will send a "turn off MWI" message when you hang up.

As stated by Telecomboy, search the threads, although I just layed it out for you (again!).

Thanks for replies.

No i didnt check which trunk specifically, but it started ringing as soon as i did auto impedence detection.

Could that indicate an issue with the firmware?

Will get to site tomorrow and swapout atm4 card and also change firmware can you please let me know a safe bet version to try?

8.1.57 seems to have done the trick!

Where does it say this bug will not be addressed till v9?

Thanks for the help as always :)
