Upgraded to 8.0.43 to fix Intuity Embedded VM bugs. Upgrade completed, file transfer stopped on first file. 9508 phones are showing unplugged in SSA. I can call in and calls do go to VM, but no phones work but analog. I am still within the 90 entitlement period and licenses show valid.

Tried downgrading back to previous release but upgrade fails immediately.
Can access the SD card files, but trying to restore system files, or upload system files pops up "Internal Error".

Defaulted the unit via the button. Now I can open a config, but sending it back to the unit fails. Still fails on upgrade/downgrade immediately. Can access SD card but can't transfer files.

Recreate the SD in Manager. Failing that, and more likely, get a new SD in there sharpish.

That was my guess.....hoping I didn't have to make a 4 hour round trip to format a 50 cent SD card. :(

did you do the upgrade over a remote connection?

after the actual upgrade you need to upload the files to the card and if you remotely upgrade the reboot will kick you out before that happens then all you need to do is upload the system files.

I did a Join.me session into a local machine. After the upgrade the system file transfer hung after uploading 1 file. I tried using the embedded file manager to upload system files and it would hang again after uploading one file. Tried to downgrade back to 8.0.16 and 7.0.x, and run the upgrade wizard again, but it would fail immediately. It has to be the SD card. I've done well over a hundred IPO installs and upgrades in the last 6 years and never had an issue like this. Gonna cost me 4 hours in LA traffic to fix an effing SD card. IMO r8 is the buggiest of any release since I started in the r3.1 era.

Yes, we do that although in some circumstances i don't like it at all.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

If doing remotely, do via remote connection to a PC on the LAN, not dial up to the IPO.

Most of our customers do have VMPro and then we use Teamviwer to connect.
There must be a PC on the site otherwise it is not done.

I would move the SD card to the local PC then try the changes. I have seen the problem happen a lot when the IPO is in a different subnet and the tech try to make the change didn't check the IP addressing first.

You must be on the same network otherwise it cannot copy the files to the SD card.
Only problem for the TS is that he was not on site :)

It can be done using an ISDN connection, we did it once for sh1ts and giggles, you just need to launch the ISDN dial in again after the reboot and it uploads no probs, a little slow but it works, wouldn't do it in practice though :)

That would take all night :)

It's not too bad, I always edit the filelist.txt right down to bare minimum required, but as I say it's not soemthing to do on a customers site :)

I would only attempt remote upgrades when:

1) The site is near enough for an engineer to get there quickly (in which case why not send him anyway)
2) The site is so broken that it could not possibly get any worse, the engineer is still a couple of hours away & the customer is desperate

so far I have only done a remote upgrade in anger once (& that was on an old 406 with V2.1 firmware)

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

IPGuru, we do it often and i did not see anyone going wrong.
The site we do remote have our SIP trunk too and we can connect to them over the same connection.
We use the VMPro machine so technically we are on site :)
I agree, when it goes wrong then we have to go onsite anyways but our country is not that big.

I do just about all of my upgrades remote without issue but we almost always install vmpro and I have logmein on that machine or if Linux I make sure to have a windows partition for management.

I did a few over analog dialup , but never on a IP500V2 but had a few old 406 and 412 that I upgraded remotely rather than a 7 hour round-trip after hours. 1 went wrong :) and I had to drive there.
