A consultant has recently told us that when we upgrade from CCM 4.1(3) to CUCM 6.1(2), our 7940 handsets will only get 85% of the functionality that some of our other models of handsets will get (7941, 7945 etc) when using SCCP.

I've never heard of this before, and it wasn't mentioned in the CIPT v6 training course. Using SIP, then yes I know about the loss of functionality, but we are 100% SCCP.

Can anyone confirm, as the company I work for are just about to replace 900 7940 handsets on the word of a consultant who I think is wrong.

I have seen no drop in functionality for the 7940 in any version of CCM. However, there is one new function that neither the 7940 nor 7960's will do in UCM 6.X. That is the ability to have the Busy Lamp Field show up in the Directories. This allows you to see if the person is on the phone just by looking at the Directory, Missed Call, Placed Call, Corp Directory etc. Great feature but only works on the 'newer' phones. But you don't have it now so you won't miss it. If you don't impliment the feature, not even the 7941's will get it.

Correct, I am using both 7940 & 7941 (SCCP). So far the only difference is the BLF that I can see.
Good call on asking around.

Thanks for the responses - you've saved us a whole lot of money, and probably cost the consultant a new Porsche !!

And hopefully cost him a gig. Time to shop for a new consultant?

Back in May we upgraded from CUCM 4.1(2)to 6.1(1). Most of our phones are 7940s as well. We have not experienced any loss of functionality we have only gained a ouple of new features.
