Here's our school's sad story: Our 780 was printing beautifully until last week when prints started to show a streaking pattern (90 degrees from paper travel). The streaking has gotten worse and I measured the pattern -- 20 cm. I know it's not the imaging unit because I swapped it out with a different one. I fear the worst; an expensive repair of accululator belt assembly or fuser kit or both. The first I can't do myself -- the fuser kit, I assume I can replace it myself, not that i want to spend $600-$900 to fix a printer I bought used for $1100. (23000 prints.) What to do? Pay for repair, buy a fuser kit and hope it's not accum belt, buy another used 780 for parts or scrap the whole thing? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. emails accepted at chiport@megapathdsl.net

Ive had a similar problem with a tektronix 700 series color laser. I dont think its the fuser becuase if the fuser was going bad it would print streaks on the entire page.

Try these things in this order:

1. Empty the waste toner, it may be full or buy a new one

2. print 20-30 or so blank sheets of paper

3. Replace the ruser roll, $30-$50 new on eBay

Tips:

I dont know where you got our prices from but used 780s that work go for $300 or basic models of $999 for floor standing full loaded models. If my tips dont work first call xerox and if thats too much head to eBay.

Thanks skiguy for your time and help. Update: I replaced the waste cartridge. I ran 10-15 blank pages and they came out clean. Then i printed a tabloid page of graphics and streaking was there. I scanned the streaks if you're in any mood to take a look -- I can email a jpg. Again, I fear the worst - accumulator belt assembly replacement. Did I mention that on a tabloid page printout , there is an occasional minor crinkling of the page? P.S. I paid $1100 over a year ago for the unit which is a 780P. Next steps??

Did you replace the fuser roll? I didnt know about the clicking unitl your last post. This is making me lean towards the problem being a mechanical problem rather then a consumables problem.

Try replacing the fuser roll. Id prefer not to post my email here so spammers can harvest my email address and spam me. Can you upload the image to a web server?
