Just a quick post to help prepare for the AD design exam, I was going to sit 298 first but decided I need to brush up on my AD knowledge (wasn't happy with my 294 result!).

Would be great if I could get some tips or advice on this exam, think i'm concentrating on the right study material, always nice to confirm!

Started using Transcender testing software for this instead of MeasureUP and i'm very impressed, scraped a pass on the 294 exam and I think the Measureup software is partly to blame.

Due to sit it on Feb 11th, if I can pass this I finally get my MCSE, been a long time coming so i'm really looking forwards to it!

Thanks,

I still think the exhibits and simulations are the ones that carry a lot of marks and if one can get at least 4 to 5 out of those correctly then the test is passable. Hence in one of my post about TestOut I was saying the practice questions are not comparable in terms of format and even questioning.

Ah...so that was your reasoning. There aren't any sims in the TestOut practice tests, but if you go back through the actual material there are tons of sims that should help you get prepared.

Regarding JonesNW's problems, I would definitely file a complaint with Prometric, with Microsoft, and probably with the testing facility as well. That last one may not be an option if it's the only Prometric facility nearby you, of course.

What you describe should never happen in a professional testing facility, and from what I'm hearing the Prometric facilities seem to have lower standards than the VUE facilities did. Fortunately the center where I test does both, and they really go out of their way to keep things professional. But people who have issues with the Prometric facilities need to really make sure that Microsoft and Prometric are aware of the issues.

Think I've sorted it all out now, prometric have given me a free re-try, the test centre offered to pay for an exam for me to (thought that was good), and I informed Microsoft via the survey they sent me today asking me how my experience on the exam was!

The test centre are taking measures to improve the environment so hopefully it wont happen again. I used to work for the people who run it, quite surprised they let me down like that but I suppose the only thing to do now is knuckle down and nail it next Monday. Really was out of order though, was so wound up coming out of there I was shaking, great frame of mind for a design exam!

Quick note for onoski, I found the simulations on the measure up software to be good for the 290 and 291, but that’s where there usefulness ended! Think the only simulations I got on that exam was enabling volume shadow copy and configuring WSUS server with its times, download methods on so on. If I remember it was pretty keen on security group nesting too (like 297!).

Thanks again for the input everyone,

Craig

Quick question for everyone....

When you migrate from an exisiting 2000 domain to 2003, do you raise the functional level before or after establishing an external trust? (the scenario suggests using ADMT).

I figured it comes before inorder to enable any advanced features that may be required, but the transcender has left me wondering which is the correct 'Microsoft' way.

Thanks,

Craig

Thanks for the feedback Jones and glad to hear that you had a free re-take. Cheerio.

Passed 297 today with a score of 781. Not the best score i've ever managed but very pleased non-the less!

Finally got my MCSE now too, been working at this a long time so i'm very happy.

I found it went much smoother when I read the question first then started scanning through the scenario, help filter out lots of unnecessary guff!

Apparently me and my company are banned from using the test centre because of the bad press they received from last week (not a good move by them considering I work for quite a large organisation that puts a lot of business there way - not anymore!).

Never mind all that though, thanks to everyone for their advice, really appreciate it, and it made all the difference.

Now I’m off to update my signature!
