70-293 prep

Hey all,

I plan to take the 293 exam in a couple of weeks because the content is similar to the 291.

Can anyone who has taken the exam recently offer any advice, waht to expect? is it much harder than the 291 etc.

I'm starting to think i'd have been better off doing 294 first, noticed a lot of the content in this exam is tested in 291/293 (one really nasty one relating to custom mods to AD schema if I remember right!).

The only nasty question (relating to custom mods to AD schema) on the 70-294 when I took it in November was a question to the effect of:


You're logged in as a domain admin. You attempt to install Exchange. It fails. Why?

The answer, if it's not obvious, is that it modifies the forest schema. You need to be logged in as an enterprise admin or schema admin. The same would be true with anything else that attempts to modify the schema.

Once 294's done I’m thinking of doing security + and 70-298, will that be enough to gain MCSE, then the ISA exam to gain security MCSE?

You'll get a vanilla MCSE once you pass the 70-294 and 70-298 exams. For MCSE: Security, you'll need to add one of the following: 70-299, 70-227, or 70-350.

Quick update on the Vista Beta exam, just got an email from Microsoft saying they have ‘re-engineered' exams and whether I could do them again!

At least this time I’ll having something to read-up on the subject before hand! looks like 2 exams, one on the 16 March, the other on the 29th.

Wish they could postpone them for a month, I’m right in the middle of preparing for 294!

Will let you all know how they went. Wish me luck... again!

I sat the 're-engineered' exam yesterday, the only real difference was office 2003/2007 compatibility questions and the exhibits were in the right place this time!

The Vista technet site pretty gave me all the information I needed, got an IP6 question which I didn't expect. Lots of questions relating to deployment methods, lots of emphasis on choosing the right method (2 main ones specified was from the DVD, WDS server, or both!).

Also lots of questions on user access control, on configuring group policy to allow or dis-allow software package elevation.

I know I’m probably being a bit vague, haven't got much time to update this thread properly! I've included a link to the new security guide for Vista (its predecessor was very good, used it to help lock down laptop security for my firm). It includes detailed information put together by system architects and admins who have encountered certain issue's already, very useful if anyone's planning on using vista in a domain environment.

Wont get the results for a couple of weeks, think I might have crashed out on this one, but I can say I know a H*ll of a lot more about Vista than I used to!!!

Now that’s over with I can finish off 294, been wanting to finish off the core exams for a while, will update here once I’ve done.

Just a quick update on 71-622 enterprise Vista. Managed to get a pass on it after all, was convinced it was coming back a fail!

Haven't had the full results sheet yet but have confirmed in MCP site.

Smooth23 - Thanks for the tip on GP, I’ve done a lot of work on my companies GP lately so I 'm hoping that will help with the exam.

Does anyone know what kind of simulations are included in 294? I'm doing as much as I can in my Virtual lab but a pointer in the right direction wouldn't hurt!

Managed to pass 70-294 today but it was very close. Simulation questions where pretty tame, had some problems with OU design though so i'll be reviewing content on that before I move on to electives.
