I have a customer that is in an area with only two providers, one being Telco and another company that is about 400.00 a month less. This of course, is the company that the business wants to go with. This is all fine except that they claim that they can send "only 7 digits" instead of the 4 that I requested because it is an old switch. My question, would there be a problem with this configuration on a MICS 7.1?
Thanks for any insight,
Tim

Change the rec`d digit length to 7 and reprogram the target lines. Before the change make note of what u currently have for TL rec`d digits.

You can set your receive to less than Telco is sending.
Typically, if Telco is sending 7 digits the first 3 digits will be identical on all of the numbers anyway.
If your Received Number Length is currently at 4, just leave it and make sure your target lines at configure for the correct digits and it will work fine.

Thanks Dasheen and Support Dude, appreciate it!

Remember you get what you pay for.

Up here Bell Canada is god for most provinces, meaning they own the wires on the streets, any repairs are done by Bell.
This means companies like Sprint, AT&T, Rogers etc rent the lines and re sell them for cheaper.
Bell will most likely give these companies the bad, shorting, corrided crap pairs in the street, take their time to repair issues and more headaches.
Re-sellers are notorious for bad service up here as well as far as customer support.

When choosing think of the percentage of savings and not the dollars, if it's 10-20% cheaper its not worth the change in my opinion.

Also they mention they are using an old switch? I wouldnt trust my lines on some Telco's old switch.

Cheers

Curlycord,
I agree with what you say but the customer had a choice of 850.00 thru Qwest or 540.00 thru WCI. (They have loop start trunks now and would be changing to PRI.)
We have to maintain the circuit and "consider all the points" you have made.
Thanks Curlycord.

If u have two backs of DID ranges, u may still want to change the Norstar to 7. We had a customer with one range and the system was setup for rec`d digits as 3 and telco was sending 3. Later they got another DID range and the last 3 digits conflicted with the other range. Ilater had to reprogram all the TLs.

Just something to think about.

He said they are running 7.1.

Digit conflicts will always be an issue with DID's, though. I usually have the CO send 10, or 7, so I only have the first digit to worry about.

... Sorry Dasheen. Looks like you were saying the same thing. It's worth saying twice, though.
