I have recently deployed 7.1 to all machines using EPO 2.5.1. Many of the machines are working fine but some are not updating their DAT files. The machines that are not working seem to be the ones on the shop floor which do not have an outside connection to the Internet. I have a repository set up internally which has worked perfectly with VS 4.5.1. The machines not updating are connecting successfully to the EPO server and updating the properties on the correct schedule. Just not updating the DATS. Any one see this problem and any suggestions?

If you go into the ePO Console and select one of these PCs from the left side, then select the Properties tab on the right side, it will display the plugins detected for that PC.

Do you see McAfee AutoUpdate in it? I know some of my clients recently stopped running the ePO tasks created for AutoUpdates and when I looked there, that plugin was no longer reported. Tried a full property scan with no success.

When I removed and reinstalled VSE 7.1, the clients started to work properly then.

If this doesn't apply to you, you may want to verify the account permissions used in 4.5.1 to run the AutoUpdate job is also configured correctly in 7.1.

Good luck!

When I check the Properties on one of the machines, it has the McAfee AutoUpdate there. Under General it reports the Plug-In Version is 3.1.1.184 and the Language is 0409. It is identical to the machine that is updating properly.

I have checked the account permissions for the AutoUpdate task and it is the same as it was in 4.5.1.

I am going to try a manual update of the DATs and see if I can see a reason why it would not be running.

Did you reinstall 7.1 through EPO or manually?

Did you try to update manually your VirusScan 7.1 ?
With a right click on the icon in the sytem tray, you have the option "Update Now".
You can also check in the VirusScan console, on the clients, in "tools>edit autoupdate repository list" if your repository is in the list.

Have you look if you must create a specific task to update the virusscan 7.1, because in ePo 2.5.1, there is an update task for each product.

In my case where the McAfee AutoUpdate was missing on some clients, I used ePO to remove and reinstall VSE 7.1. After the reinstall, the clients with the missing plug in finally started to show it.

You'll want to take a look at the suggestions posted by P3dr0 as they can also help narrow down what else may be having problems, like the AutoUpdate Repository list.

P3dr0, thanks for the suggestions. We are able to update the DAT files manually. No errors, so still cannot find a reason why they are not updating properly. I have a specific task created for the 7.1 update. I will watch now to see if the one we updated manually begins to update the DATs automatically. Would really like to find a solution to this problem.

I am sure you have stored the utdate.ini file together with the DAT file

Well, the problem has been resolved since we moved to EPO 3.0. Everything is working as it should.
