I have a customer that is moving from R7 to R11 on their 500v2. I've never done an upgrade that moves a unit that far, so I have already posted in a separate thread asking from some advice on that. My question here is...

Do I need to upgrade VMPro or can i just install it fresh at 11.0?

They are moving to a new VMPro Server so could i just copy call flows, greetings, wav. files and then import/past them into a fresh install of VMPro 11 on the new server.

I've never upgrade VMPro, can anyone hook me up with some good documentation or give me any tips or hints to make it go smoothly?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure you need to bring that server to atleast 9.1 to upgrade to R11. I could be wrong, never worked on anything under 9.0.

And I copy the /names /accounts /wavs /accounts and /greetings

Also make a back up of mdb and mods.

Format the server and install application server, then load mdb and mods, and migrate the backed up folders into /opt/vmpro/*

Never had this go wrong.

The docs always recommend upgrading VM Pro as you would the core. Personally I would back up the mdb at each step and verify it is there after the upgrade step. Sometimes it will lose the mdb sort of. It will still work off the root file but you won't be able to see the call flows.

Best install fresh VMPro in 11.0

Backup names\accounts\wavs\accounts and \greetings folders, and MDB and MODS.

If, as you say, they are migrating to a new server, I would just install the new server at release 11 and restore their data to it. I've done this with other releases with no problem. After you restore the database it will be converted to R11 automatically.

If i just do a fresh install at 11.0, what do i need to copy from the old server and move to the new server? Any special way to do it or just file brows to the location and copy paste to a thumb drive?

The VM folder has greetings, accounts, names, and any wav files they might currently be using. Copy those over.

I know this is months after the fact but I figured I would post a follow up with how things went. The install went well and everything moved over fine. However, the server didn't have the IIS components required and the VMP installer didn't give any warnings that the IIS components were missing. So, I thought I had a complete and successful install but VMPro wouldn't respond. Thankfully, the other tech I was working with, thought to check the IIS requirements and we just had to download them and install them on the server. That took about an hour though.
