I want to upgrade a customer to 7.0XC because the pahntom dn's would help with their application, however in the manual it briefly describes them but does not show me where to program them. Anybody know the proper way to program these???

Why would you need to upgrade them to xc in order to use phantom DNs? They can be used without the xc software

Because they have 6.1XC now because of the 2 fiber modules they have. So without XC would only operate 1

You didn't mention that they already had the XC software...

Anyways, check out faq799-3640 for Phantom DN Q/A

That FAQ does not say anything about PHANTOM DN's in the 7.0. The way that it does shows burns a port , whereas the PAHNTOM's in 7.0 do not. They are true virtuals (phantoms) that you can supposedly program a line to ring at a DN that does not physically exist, and then assign Answer DN keys to phones that answer the Phantom DN, but it does not say HOW to program a Phantom port.

Well, it looks like Norstar calls them Phantoms when they ARE NOT truly phantoms, because a TRUE phantom does not burn a port but it IS looking like I have to burn a port. Other systems you can create a phantom that does not burn any physical equipment at all just virtual programming. They should really be careful when describing a feature when it doesn't even match its name, lol. Also looks like I was wrong on the 7.0XC upgrade because you can do it (via burning ports) on the 6.1 as well.

I've been using the phantom DNs in the fashion you mentioned since 5.0.

The way to have a "true" phantom DN is to look for a DN that WILL show up under Terminal & Sets, but does NOT show up under Maintenance -> Port/DN Status (then pressing the DN softkey).

All you need to do is identify the DN that you want the phantom DN to appear & ring on. Then, go into Line Access -> Answer DNs and setup the "phantom" to Appr&Ring on that extension.

Note that the properties of the physical DN phone will superseed that of the phantom (ie. Fwd no Answer, Fwd on Busy, etc).

If the phantom DN is to have voicemail, be sure that the physical phone that the DN appears on does NOT have voicemail, otherwise it will default to that DN's voicemail.

Hope this helps...

BTW... the only difference that I'm aware of with Answer DN's between 7.0 & everything else is the ability to now push the line button to call the answer DN extension... prior to 7.0, it was strictly an answer button

Thanks alot for your input, going to try it out later this week on site.

PERFECT, now thats what I'm talking about. Thanks alot.
I was just getting frustrated with all the other work arounds that involved the hunt groups and such because I needed them for 1 thing and it wasn't a true phantom for another. Thanks again, good call.

I have used "true phantom" DN's with PBX's. PBX's do alot more than the Hybrid Norstar's.
