From what I am seeing" - strangley enough we don't know what you are seeing but its pretty wrong as there isn't such as thing as Nortel edition (the versions are Norstar, Quick, PARTNER and plain vanilla IP Office).
T-Series and M-Series phones and various others are supported in all the modes supported by an IP500v2 system running Release 7.0.
I am looking at a PDF I saved called "IP Office R7 Product Update FINAL 3rd Feb 2011.
It is showing Essential Edition- Norstar edition on vs2 platforms.
Norstar™ / BCM migration to IP Office
IP Office 7.0 is a key enabler for the migration from Norstar™ and BCM to IP Office by the introduction of the new hardware components listed below and by introducing support for selected Nortel phones.
New Hardware Components
Extension modules for Nortel phones:
•
TCM8, 8-port digital phones Extension Card with RJ45 connectors (IP500 V2 only)
•
DS16A*, 16-port digital phones Expansion Module with one RJ21 connector (IP500 V2 only)
•
DS30A*, 30-port digital phones Expansion Module with two RJ21 connectors (IP500 V2 only)
So you have a regular IP Office vs2 in IP Office Edition mode with T series phones on it?? Niicce. Are they connected using said new expansion modules? What software level are you at?
Thanks! Yes, doing it live is better than paper/ PDFs. Right now all I have here at the house are Avaya sets and 6.0 sw.
Being able to use Norstar/ BCM phones with the IP Office will make my customers extremely happy especially if SOME of the features will remain the same as this PDF says it will.
Most of my customers will be migrating from Norstars/ BCMs to IP Office but I want to make sure that they can do it in regular IP Office Edition so that they can do VM Pro as well. Not just a special Essential (embedded vmail only )Norstar edition.
Be a little patience.
7.0 will come in a couple of weeks.
Then there will also be a techbulletin which will explain it all.
It will have everything that is new in it and also which phones will be supported and which not.
It should come next week but i think it will have a slight delay.
That's where I found the phone guides. And I am in the tech guides and it is still saying "This documentation is intended to assist with the installation of the core components of an Avaya IP Office Essential Edition - Norstar Version"
I don't want Essential (embedded vmail) edition. I want IP Office Standard Preferred edition with VM Pro- Norstar.
I look in the Knowledge Base for 7.0 documentation and it pulls up 6.1 manuals.
I am using Norstar/Nortel phone on IPO with VMPRO, CCR, OXP etc, they work just fine. You can see for yourself as I am doing a Demo in Manchester next week
Norstar edition is for the EMEA market, just like Partner edition is for the US market. Rest assured you can mix and match Nortel digital sets and Avaya digital and IP sets on the same system, just not on the same card/module, with either embedded mail or VM pro.
"This documentation is intended to assist with the installation of the core components of an Avaya IP Office Essential Edition - Norstar Version" - yes it does, maybe because your looking at the installation manual for the Norstar Version!
Look at the install manual for the standard version and its says something different - strange that! Wonder what the installation manual for the Partner Version says?
Okay, pick another record person of no specific gender implied, no not no gender as in neuter just no gender any gender, ... help
A bad day is 3 separate people answering your first question (badly phrased open question by the way) in the affirmative (BCM/Norstar phones work in all IP Office modes = yes) and your responding by insisting that we must be wrong!
Okay, its unfair we have the inside track of field trialing the kit but at least we're here sharing despite the Avaya NDA.
You might be able to help by answering the question about versions of BCM/Norstar phones. It keeps being asked in other forums, and we shrug shoulders and look puzzled as we have basically grabbed any M-Series and T-Series phones we could find and they all worked. Is phone version an issue in the BCM/Norstar world?
ps. Manchester is very kid friendly, check out Stan the T.Rex and MOSI.
Digital Nortel phones (M series and T series work basically the same)
It started getting weird when Nortel started trying their hand at IP sets.
"(BCM/Norstar phones work in all IP Office modes = yes)" THAT is what I was looking for! A definitive answer. But you are right, I was looking at the header of Nortel version. I'll blame my kids underfoot again. Nothing like a kid going: Mom, mommy, mommy, mom, mommy....WHAT?!? Hi.
I have done a few outside installations, but they have been relatively small and didn't require a whole lot of features.
