Hello all,

Our CICS KSU was victim to a lightning storm recently. We were given an old 6x16 to get us by, but we may stick with it since it does the basic stuff we need. But, we have a StarTalk Flash unit that we would like to use.

My research tells me that the KSU is DR2 eng/fre, and we need at least DR5.1 or DR5 w/ DS. But I've also read that you can't use the DS cartridge if your KSU is not DS compatible. The one thing I haven't figured out is how to tell if my chassis is DS capable or not.

Model # of the chassis is NT5B01.

Also, does anyone have a DR5.1 cart for my unit that they could sell?

Easiest way to tell is open up the 6X16 and if you see black writing all over the KSU it's NON-DS , if you see bluegreen writing then it's DS.

Much as I would like to sell you software it is not permitted in these forums.

Cheers

OK, as it turns out I have two 6x16 KSU's now - on one the printing is black on a light grey background, on the other the printing is white on a darker grey background. Any suggestions as to where I could get software outside the forums? eBay has no recent soft carts.

I think the dr5 software works ok in the non ds ksu
but the "disconnect supervision" won't work without the DS hardware .
therefore if you connect a non DS ksu to voicemail your incoming line will lock up to your mail system .it might time out from the mail system and eventually release but i don't remember the exact result.

Better off with a new CICS cabinet. Then you know it's going to work with VM. The software should have been fine, but system could have lost programming.

Get a new(refurb) CICS with line card, put old software in and power it up. Or get it with software. Should be able to do that for less than $800. Spend the money it's worth not having any problems.

This time some lightning protection for the phone lines might be a good idea.

Thanks for everyone's help. The DR5 DS software did not work in either of our non-DS cabinets. We wanted to be -cheap- for the time being, so we bought a new 3x8 w/ DR5.1 for about $350. We'll be upgrading down the road to an 8x24 or a VoIP solution based on Asterisk. I imagine my CICS 6.0 software cartridge and my CI trunk card will almost cover that when I sell them on eBay. I doubt the dead CICS cabinet will bring in anything.
