I am running Windows Xp Pro and am wondering how to clock a CPU proporly and safly.

1. I have learned that you must clock a CPU in incriments, what lever per upgrade is safe and how frequently.

2. In the system BIOS screen (the blue one) at the top in the main tab, i see

CPU speed 600 MHz
bla
bla
bla
CPU level 1 Cache Enabled
'' '' 2 '' Enabled
'' '' 3 '' Enabled

What exacly are those Cache things and what is there perpose, and what would happen if one were to disable on of them.

Thats all for now. Thanks for any help that can be given.

Bye for now!

Clocking a CPU is a thing you best leave either alone or to a pro...

go to an overclocker website to get more info...

PS - it's not worth the time mostly... the speed increase is not noticable, best way to increase the speed of a PC is to install good RAM and to finetune the BIOS settings...

CPU cache is basically super fast memory on the CPU itself (or extremely close). Disabling cache (although I never knew you could do that) would only lead to performance loss...
