If anyone here has looked into installing 6.0(1a) recently, the documentation says it requires a Xeon 3050 dual-core. Well, that processor is probably almost three years old now...you can't even find that thing from a large box store unless it's in some cheap "please bye me" server that you can't even customize.

We made the mistake of trying a Xeon 5345 quad-core.. That got us about 30 seconds in to the installation where it stops and says "Hardware not supported, installation will now halt."

Nice... So how are people supposed to be getting new machines and upgrading to this new software when the software only supports hardware from 2003-04?

Ok...maybe the 3050 isn't from 2004, but it is nearly outdated by what other processors are now on the market.

ugh, how frustrating.

Cisco used to have a website which outlined which hardware was supported for each version of CCM\UCM. The link is It used to have HP & IBM servers (with exact part #s listed). Now they only show IBM. [sad]

Anyways. Here is a listing i used to order 2 new HP servers for migrating to UCM 6.x

1 417456-001 HP DL380G5 5140 2G US Svr
1 418322-B21 HP X5140 DL380G5 Kit
2 397411-B21 HP 2GB FBD PC2-5300 2x1GB Kit
1 383280-B21 HP SA Cache Battery Kit
4 375861-B21 HP 72GB 10K SAS 2.5 Hot Plug Hard Drive
1 264007-B21 HP Slim 8X/24X DVD-ROM Drive
1 399771-B21 HP RPS 350/370/380 G5 Kit
1 410570-B21 HP PCI-X/PCI-E NHP DL380G5 Riser
1 U4545E HP 3y 4h 24x7 ProLiant DL38x HW Support

(I added the CarePaq myself) I even spoke with an engineer who works on the UCM platform who confirmed the specific processor. (we typically buy the 5160, not the 5140) It has to be the 5140.

this site still shows which versions of CCM (3-4) and UCM (5-6) are supported on the various hardware platforms:

You shouldn't need a Cisco login for that link. More info can be found here:

Hope that helps.

mtashiro - Thanks for the link! I was hoping they didn't do away with the HP systems
