56K modem card will not work

Have 56K Gold card installed in older Dell CP Laptop..modem query says it is recognized but it will not dial out...

Do you have dialup networking adapted installed in windows components? just a thought!

just another thing to check, open device mgr, click on modem then properties, and check that you dont have a conflect with resources, just becuase windows found it
doesn't mean its installed right....good luck!

One other thing you might also check is that maybe it had an onboard modem that needs to be disabled in setup,some older laptops did come with built in modems ?? just a thought

I found years ago that if you can sometimes "almost" signup on AOL (stop short of giving your credit card #) and many modem problems will clear up.
