5610sw download VPN firmware 3

406v2 running 4.1.9

I have the VPN remote license installed and valid, the "Allow VPN" box checked in the extension tab, and unzipped the:
\ADMIN4_1_9\bin\VPN Phone\h323_VPN_232_52_SMBS.zip
files to the Manager folder.
The 5610SW IP phone has been assigned to group 876. I unplugged the phone and plugged it back in. it comes back up as a regular phone with no VPN settings. I will paste the Manager TFTP log display below: (The first MAC listed is the phone in question and is the only IP phone on the network)

are you local to the IP Office? because that way it will download the regular 46xx and go back to whatever is set in that. I have not done a VPN phone yet but I am looking forward to it. Try it on another network that doesn't have the 46xxsettings.txt otherwise you need to manipulate it, but I am not sure where, I will get the file and have a look if I find something.

I think there was an issue with the VPN files that came out with 4.1. Ihad to change somethinhg and i forget what it was to get them going. I will try and look for it.

We tried to get a 5610SW voip phone upgraded to the VPN firmware yesterday. We ran into a missing file error on the 'x10d01a2_3.bin' file. This Tek-Tips thread discusses it in some detail. The very last post of that thread says

"Yes... we have experienced this problem as well. My "workaround" was to replace the last line of the 46xxvpn.scr file with:

GET 46vpnupgrade.scr

This works and the 56xx telephones successfully upgrade to the VPNRemote firmware... "

Now, last line of 46xxvpn.scr originally said
GET 46xxsettings.txt
so I replaced this with
GET 46vpnupgrade.scr

After making this change, we no longer got the missing file error, and the 5610 IP phone then came up with a 'VPN configuration error' message - a reassuring sign.

My only issue currently is this - since I'm not yet ready to actually configure all the VPN settings, I chose 'Disable' on the VPN config screen, expecting the phone to revert to being a normal IP phone, but - after a restart, it said 'Wrong Set Tupe' and would not work - so I've actually lost the normal IP phone use of the 5610SW at this point.
 
You have to get this file

'x10d01a2_3.bin'

from the 4.0 admin cd and drop it in the manager directory, there was not enough room on the 4.1 admin cd apparently (or they forgot)

I'm going to download 4.0 now so I can get this file.

Once I have that file in the working directory, I will undo the workaround presented above and re-load the phone.

Does the 'wrong set type' message I'm getting make sense to anyone?

And to clarify - Once upgraded to a VPN phone, will the phone still operate as a regular IP phone if needed; that is - if I bring an updated 5610SW phone into the office, can I use it as a reguar IP phone, or am I forced to ONLY use it as a VPN device after upgrading? That 'wrong set type' kinda scared me! Thanks!
 
Wrong set type would suggest that the phone has loaded the VPN firmware correctly but is trying to log on to a phone that is not set as a VPN phone?

Or maybe vice versa, if the phone has not upgraded to VPN but the extension is set to VPN phone. I havent tried it that way round.

Downloaded 4.0.14 copied the 'x10d01a2_3.bin' into the manager folder and amazingly downloaded the vpn files to the phone..........I think i'll invoice Avaya for the 4 hours I spent messing with this. Now I just have to get the phone to work from anywhere in the world that has a high speed internet connection like the sales people promised!
 
With 4.0 you have no way to license the VPN phone so it will (should) stop working after the 180 days trial has expired. You'll want to upgrade to 4.1.9 or later to properly license the VPN Phone.

I believe he meant that he downloaded and installed 4.0 just to get the one file; at least, that's what I did - installed 4.0 on a "throwaway" test machine, purely to get the one file extracted, then copied that one file over to my 'production' 4.1 system.

You refer to 'trial license'. Is the phone itself governed by a license, or just the host IPO to which it is connecting? I was assuming the phone was not itself restricted by a lincense. I'm assuming I have to get my BP to give me a trial license for this; is there any other way to get a trial? Your comment almost makes it sound like a trial period automatically starts as soon as you try to use it?
 
yeah a trial license, to my knowledge, starts as soon as it is generated, we only seem to get 45 days in uk, i would love 180 days

 
So once I upgrade a 5610 SW phone with the VPN firmware, can I still choose to use the phone in the office, bypassing the VPN component, as if it were a standard non-VPN VOIP phone?

Currently, I'm getting 'wrong set type' on the phone when I disable the VPN piece. This phone was working on my desk for months, and I want to continue using it on my desk until I get the VPN phone license.
 
Hi all, I made a lot of tests with 5610 VPN phone and "wrong set type' after disabling the VPN piece. The only way to recover a "classic mode" is to connect this extension on IPO in 3.2.XX. And you can downgrade 5610...
 
Supposedly the firmware in the phone, or at least the initial release of it, was set to expire at 180 days beyond the date of installation. This was due to the fact that the firmware was available prior to the 4.1 GA of IP Office and there was no licensing mechanism in 4.0. The trial RFA in IP Office is limited to 45 days from the date the license is created which would cause the IPO license to expire fare before the phone actually quits working.

To downgrade a phone to non VPN firmware simply set the group back to 0 vs. 876 and reboot. The 46xxupgrade.scr is setup to skip to # DEFVPN only if the group is set to 876 and to skip to # NOVPN and upload standard .bin files if the group is set to anything else.

I tried to set it back to 0 and it did not do anything. maybe i didnt have the right files but it was still a VPN phone when i was done. I will try again just to see.

Look for the section below. The key part would be to insure that your phone type is listed in the IF section of the block I pasted. If not the phone will not be recognized and will be bypassed. You can, if you want, add IF $GROUP SEQ 0 goto NOVPN if you wanted to be redundant.

Thanks. I will give it a shot. I have like 10 phones i was playing with trying different bin files for VPNs and have to get them back to normal at some point. I never really looked into it so this will help a lot.
