I have a customer with a DSL connection wanting to connect some 5610VPN phones. My question is how will the DSL modem effect the phones being able to connect from the outside. I checked the docs for connecting a VPN phone to a NetgearFVS338 but it dosent have a dsl modem in the mix. Since the VPN router connects to the internet from the DSL modems LAN, will the phones be able to get to the netgear using the DSL modems public IP? An assistance will be greatly apperciated.

Thanks

You will need to get a static IP from the DSL provider and assign it to the Netgear firewall. Everything will work great.

So to make sure I understand this correctly, the ISP will assign them a new public IP that I will be able to route through the DSL modem to the firewall.

TourPro,

Call your ISP and ask them to put your modem in "BRIDGED" mode. This means they will pass the public IP through the DSL modem back to your firewall.

I have also seen this work where you remove the PPPoE from the DSL modem and have it configured on the Firewall instead.

But go with bridged mode if possible. If not, get yourself a new ISP!

DavidCT,

Worked like a charm. Thanks for the help.

Use dyndns dot org they will work with VPN on a dynamic IP i have one set between my FVS114 and FVS338 no problems
