Emergency call notification was received by our 5550 IP console operator today but she was unable to view it until the third time she clicked on the icon. Emergency notification goes to 5360 telephones as well. I know the 5360s can only view the notification one at a time. If one of the 5360s is viewing the notification, does this block the 5550 console from seeing it?

A different question about emergency notification. Is there any way to simulate this without actually calling the PSAP? Looks like we could use some training and don't want to bother the EMS operators.

set up some ARS so that it accesses a route flagged as emergency

its the number being dialed via a route flagged as emergency that generates the record

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Agree with Billz66. Any dial string that accesses a route that is set to an emergency route will trigger the alarm. Not sure if when another phone is viewing alarms it would delay access by the console. I would think not in that the alarms are queued to the console and I don't think the phone is looking at those queued alarms on the console. Might want to check the console operator is following the correct process. Some people get excited by the alram indication.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

It would not surprise me if only one device can view the alarm at one time.

To test, I login and set the local call route to emergency, make a local call, and then turn emergency route off.

What's most important is that you realise ... There is no spoon.

Thanks for the inputs. Please bear with me as Mitel schools were a year ago October and some stuff is a little hazy. We finally started putting the Mitel on line in the summer and are still moving stuff from the old system. I set up the emergency call notification months ago and don't have access to MCD right now.

I make an ARS route and make it route type emergency. Then I assign some unused numbers as ARS digits dialed to that route. Is there a way I can route this new "emergency" call to our test 5550 soft phone or will it go to the active attendant console by COS?

I will play with this when I get a chance, probably Friday or next week.

It is possible the operator was a little flustered. She was fielding a lot of calls, directing people to conferences, the e-notification ringing started, she clicked the icon and the field was blank, e-services called her asking if there was an emergency, the safety person called asking if there was an emergency, That is why I want to set up something that will not actually call 911 for a little practice drill.

FWIW to you all, since we put the Miel in on line August we have had five emergency calls. One real, four "I must have leaned on the phone or something". Are my customers dumber than ours?

Love your signature line LoopyLou, we could work at the same place.

All the rest of you, thanks again.

If you setup an ARS string that dials your cell phone number ( for example ) and have that ARS string use the route you have set as an emergency route. Then every call from the site to your cell phone will trigger the alarm to the console for testing. Because it only calling your cell phone it doesn't trigger the 911 center.

Keep in mind the MCD doesn't affect the 911 call. In an emergency the system doesn't know you are dialing 911 specifically ( remember other countries might not use 911 for emergencies. I think the UK is 999 or something else ). All the MCD knows is that you dialed something that used the route that it has defined as an emergency route. Therefore the system raises and internal alarm to the 5550. The MCD reports on the fact that something used the defined emergency route. The call still goes to your cell phone. That is how you test 911 alarming.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.
