I was hoping someone may be able to help with the following scenario.
We have a customer who wants to use a 5550 Console for a receptionist and 5340 handsets for admin staff located in a different part of the building. They want both the console and 5340s to ring at the same time for their mainline number.

Normally I would use multicall keys, key system hunt groups or more recently ring groups for main line number ringing.

I have not had much experience with the Console and didnt realise multicall keys could not be programmed on them and that consoles cannot be part of ring groups.

Any ideas either proper or workaround/fudges would be appreciated.

The system is a Mitel3300MXe running MCD4.1 SP2

Thanks in advance

Not going to happen. You cannot ring any device at the same time as a console except another console.

I have heard the Mitel is developing the Sub-Attendant functionality but I've heard that before.

Thanks kwb!

That is what I suspected.

I guess my next best option is to create a Softkey on the attendent and have that call reroute 1st alternative to a multicall key /ring group or hunt group on the admin phones.

softkey reroute will work as a backup answering position.

Have you considered enabling a comfort greeting? Thanks for calling our operator is currently assisting other callers....

I did think of it as an alternative but know it would be rejected by the customer as all mainline calls needs to be answered by a person rather than a voicemail/auto-attendant during opening hours

I'm not suggesting Voicemail or Autoattendant but a recorded message the simply says thank you for calling and places the caller in queue for the console. The caller hears music instead of ringing, the console continues to ring and the call is answered as soon as the operator is able to.

This option is usually preferable to sending the call to a station that does not have the same resources as the console.

IRB the feature that KWB mitel is referring to is called attendant overflow. it's listed in the online help file as such if you require assitance in programming this.

Thanks guys. I have added that to my list of alternatives for the customer to consider. We are upgrading from an old Panasonic switch with line keys and virtual extension keys so they are used to mainline calls ringing at both locations at the same time.

I am hoping to convince them that with the new attendant software reception will be able to answer calls more efficiently but am proposing both of the options we have discussed - over flow to admin department and/or message as you suggested

thanks again to both of you for your input
