553 xxxxx : Permission denied

hi experts,

i am using xp to upload unix file.

from an xp (dos) directory, i got this message after trying to "put" the file to tru64 directory.

ftp> put xxxxx
200 PORT command successful
553 xxxxx : Permission denied.
ftp>

any idea what's wrong?

You don't have write permission to the directory. Make sure the user you log into unix with has write permission. If not you (or someone else) will need to chmod the directory it.

hi there,

i have 2 systems. i can do it in my first system, but not in the second.

system #1 = working

drwxr-xr-x 2 xxxx xxx 8192 Jan 30 00:45 123/
drwxrwxr-x 2 xxxx xxx 8192 Aug 26 23:46 12345/

system #2 = not working

drwxrwxrwx 3 xxxx xxx 8192 Jul 30 00:52 123/
drwxr-xr-x 2 xxxx xxx 8192 Dec 15 23:45 12345/

the login ID i am using is basically same. the groups, permissions, etc.

what could be wrong?

Are you sure there is not a file of the same name there already owned by someone else?

(you have not the right to write in that directory or a file with
that name already exists and you are not allowed to overwrite it)

Can you put any file to that directory? If not check permissions on underlaying directories.
