I am trying to FTP files from one server to another using FTP. The files are 7GB Databases. When i try to FTP them i get an Error Out of my Ftp Program: "553 Cannot Send File larger then 4 Gigabytes."

is there a way around this using IIS, Perhaps a Registry hack or something?

Thanks

Is one of the machines an NT4 /2000 box? Some older systems have a defined max file size of 4Gb, i dont know if you have ever seen the checkbox on Windows install saying someting like 'Enable large file support'

I am not sure if this can be fixed easily, but i would imagine that its an OS problem and not an FTP one.

Have you tried compressing the database file, my 8Gb one compresses to around 1Gb

no, Both machines are XP, Both running Professional, Service Pack 2, One is running IIS (i know its limited) but what i am looking for is if there is a way to get around the 4 gig limit. The database has already been compressed. It was 12 Gigs

I have done a little research for you and it appears that there is a limit in the XP pro IIS which stops files of over 4Gb being transferered. Apparently this is not an issue with Windows 2k and Server 2003.

I would suggest installing a third party FTP server on the source machine, and if you are still having problems, upgrade the recipient machine to use a different FTP client.

For the server, try which i have found to be very good.

You may find a "hack" within the metabase of IIS. I know there are other limitations that can be circumvented via this method--Namely the limit on the amount of users that can connect to an XP IIS website. Look on the Microsoft website for the Metabase editor, and download that. It will look much like regedit, with a few slight differences.

Have you tried mapping a drive letter on one server from the other, then opening a command prompt, and simply copying the file from the mapped drive to the local drive? Worth a shot !
