I purchased eight 5420 digital phones in July 2005. Since then, 3 of them have developed a really annoying problem where the off-hook switch does not work more than half the time. The problem is that when the handset is removed, the switch doesn't fully come up (it seems only a few millimeters makes all the difference).

Has anyone else run into this issue? Any advice on how to get the switch to fully come up when the handset is removed so the phone thinks it is off-hook without having to pull the switch up by hand?

Has anyone found a replacement spring that's a little bit stronger than what came installed in the phone?

if you don't have warranty then open up and put some butter on it

How long is the standard phone warranty? I'm guessing it's only 1 year but figured I'd ask before breaking out the stick of land-o-lake in my fridge!

Just in case anyone finds this thread with the same problem...

I just replaced the hook spring with one I took off a HP Q5949X toner cartridge (the spring that moves the big plastic cover over the drum or whatever).... I had to clip a tiny portion of the spring to get fit it in the phone's retaining slot, but the stronger spring really fixed the problem.

Taking the phone apart and replacing the spring only took about 5 minutes too, which was a pleasant surprise.

A fat one :)
It is no joke by the way
