500 internal server error

I have a dating site and it seems to be running OK but on the very odd occasion the pages will be very slow to load.. they will just hang for a while and then a 500 internal server error comes up. i reload and the pages comes up fine. It happens at random times and very infrequently (so its not only at times of heavy load).

The server doesnt crash or anything, its not a CF server error.. so i'm just wondering if anyone might have any idea what might be causing this?

If you do find out, please let me know. I've been dealing with the same situation and haven't come up with an answer.
