50% of sites coming in slllow, with zero graphics!

Hi,


We're running a network with a Win2K Server running RRAS and NAT to provide Net access to the corporate T-1. This machine is also the BDC of the domain.

For the last week, users have been complaining about poor internet performance. What I'm noticing is that 50% of web sites come in nice and snappy with no problems. However, the other half take 2x to *10x* as long, and none of the graphics of the pages are downloaded!

Sites that work are: abcnews.com, msn.com.
Sites that don't: my.yahoo.com, buy.com, msnbc.com

I checked with our ISP and they said our circuit is fine. All other internal network throughput seems fine, as well as throughput on straight downloads (get 165K/sec+ from microsoft.com). So I'm sure it's not a bandwidth issue.

What could possibly be going on? I've restarted the DNS client & Server service, run pings and tracerts... I'm not sure how to go about troubleshooting this! I changed no configurations on the server

Any pointers towards a resolution would be appreciated!!

Have you tried running the "pathping" utility? This might give you a better idea of what is happening between you, several routers and the web servers...

Hey Rhyno2k, I'm having a similar problem but this is for outgoing sites hosted on my W2K server. I've used tracert and pathping and everything seems fine from here. People using pathping form the outside say it dies right before the last node.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

AH yes, good ol' pathping - I'd forgotten about that.

I ran it today, and all hops were <20ms, 0% packet loss.

Actually, the one domain we're really having trouble with is Yahoo Mail (mail.yahoo.com)... and I'm not even sure it's that one -- all screens (intro, login, etc.) leading to Yahoo Mail come up in a flash. It's only when you go to check mail and list your inbox does it take 2 minutes+!

The workstations browsing are quite capable (1 Gig Xeons with 256M RDRAM). All other aspects of network are OK. And Yahoo Mail comes in fine when I Remote Desktop to my XP box @ home...
