46xxx Firmware question- How can I load and push a new firmware to my phone only to test?

Hello, I want to test a new 46xxx file but only on my phone as I do nto want to cause any issues with any other phones. Can I have 2 "active" 46xxx files and push one to only my phone for testing purposes? Thanks!

There's a HTTPSRVR and HTTPDIR parameter in DHCP.

So, if you had just HTTPSRVR= 10.10.10.10, then your phone will request

http://10.10.10.10/46xxsettings.txt

If you had HTTPDIR=marktest, then your phone will request

http://10.10.10.10/marktest/46xxsettings.txt

If you don't change anything DHCP-side and make a folder called marktest on your file server and put your test file in there and go in the craft menu of your phone and set HTTPDIR=marktest, then it'll only ever be requested by phones you configure yourself to have HTTPDIR=marktest

Kyle555- Thanks! I am working on getting Agent status changes to show on my 96xx series phones and Avaya wants me to test 6.6.6 to my phone first. I apprecioate the help as I am not new to the Telecom world but new to using Utility server. With that said, can I create the test file/dir using Utility server?

Put your new settings in a file called newsettings.txt. Put your test phone in a different group. Modify either the upgrade file or your existing 46xxsettings.txt file to read newsettings.txt for that group.

Ok, I am almost there but I ask this question only to ensure I do it right and to help clear my mind of any fear that other phones will be affected. I have saved newsettings file to utility server (or am trying to)buton "Output Screen" it then asks me to "Click to save to this server" and has a box that clearly states "SAVE 46XXsettings file to this server". It concerns me since it states 46xx not newsettings. Proceed?

or just get hfs+ http server, double click, open, drag your settings file into it, hand code your phone to point to your PC for HTTPSRVR

I dont see why you would ever need more than 1 46xxsettings.txt file. If you're moving from an old file to a new one, just copy settings exactly as is from the old to the new. No changes to any user. Then setup the group feature to test new features for your phone. But this post has a clever solution for using more then 1 46xxsettings.txt file.

I misread. The question is on different firmware (so different 96x1Hupgrade.txt file). Kyle has the easiest solution - i.e. load an http server on a different PC, put a copy of the 46xxsettings.txt file on it, unzip the new firmware file. Point the test phone to this server.

Don't even need the firmware. If you just wanted to test a different setting in your 46xx, then toss that 46xx on the easiest HTTP server around and point your phone there. No firmware required - unless you wanted to test different firmware too.

I use the group options. That why if I need to roll out new FW to test and can select a group of phones, and change there group to get the new FW. I also do the same with 46xxfiles. For example, I use one 46xxfile for office phones, and one for VPN phones.

See the IP Phone admin guide for the specific type of phone you are working with. The phones support a variety of variables including $APPNAME, $GROUP and $MACADDR. You can use IF SEQ steps to select specific software versions. No changes to the 46xxsettings.txt file are required unless you need to add specific parameters to configure new features introduced with the new software version.
