Have 20 or so IP Phones that are stuck on discover after upgrading to 2.8 (sometimes they work, but mostly say discovering) Using a cisco 500 PoE switch. they work fine when i take that switch out of the mix. so its something to do with 2.8 not working correct with the cisco switch. i have disaled spanning tree on the switch. im not using vlans but notice the switch has a default of vlan 1. caould really use some help here, im pulling out my hair.

What was the old version you were using? Do you have a CMS directly connected via a cross over cable to a CLAN board?

Hey Kevin -

If this is the bank's sites. I remember you had to switch the CLAN the phone registered to. Never could figure out why that was. The Discovering message basically tells you it can't get to/or get a response from the Call Server.

I'm running several Rel 2.8 with no problem here. I haven't heard any issues with 2.8 and your switches, but I'll check around.

Mike,

its actually Lou. yes the bank. they are now using these cheapy cisco swithces and they are killing me. we went to a DHCP enviroment that worked great unitl these PoE switches went in at the same time as 2.8. all the other sites are working great at 2.8 without the cisco switch.

Lou - It definitely sounds like it would be the Cisco switch then. Can you check the setting in both switches to see if there the same programming wise? just thought..

Hi;

Had a similiar issue on 2.8

Mine was the phones did boot up, and after finding CLAN, sat at the login and password screen for about a minute, but would then revert to discovering. Only way around it was to unplug phone and wait till it was at the login and log the phone in.

If you attempted to login and the extension or password were incorrect, it stayed at the login screen.

Dont know the exact type of switches.

Is this similiar to your issue ???

Have also upgraded dodgy 2.7 to 2.8 on over 1000 4621 with no issues ???

Any chance this could be the result of the phones booting up fast then access to the DHCP server and timing out?

I don't do much with IP phones, but surely if the Cisco has a default VLAN ID of 1 then they wont pass the phone traffic if the phones are on VLAN 0 (default). Change one phone to VLAN 1 or change the Cisco to no VLAN and see what happens!
