Hello !

I am managing a PBX an Avaya G3siV12 with operating system R012i.00.1.221.1
which has enable 20 devices IP phones Avaya 4602 IP.

One of them had to be replaced and I found an Avaya 4602SW IP.

I tried to install it and used the exact same settings as the old phone :

Phone=192.168.2.212 (IP address of phone)
CallSV=192.168.2.80 (η IP address of media server)
CallSvPort=1719
Router=192.168.2.1
Mask=255.255.255.0
FileSv=192.168.2.88 (one PC running TFTP server that I setup)
802.1Q=on

I tried to activate the phone but it was looking for TFTP server.

So I setup one on a PC and uploaded an old file I had : 46XXUPGRADE.SCR

As soon as the phone connects to the TFTP and gets the file 46XXUPGRADE.SCR it asks for a file which is not available 4602dbte1_8.bin

Is this file necessary ?

Can anyone send it to me ?

Thanks !!

Makis

I replied to your other thread already but just in case you miss it here's the file you're after.

(my provisioning server has files going back over 10 years - so it was fortunately still on there as I still have a few 4600 series sets)

Dear Shaun,

You are amazing !! Thank you very much for your help !!
Monday morning I will put the file on my TFTP...

Thanks again !!

Makis

So I couldn't wait until Monday, so I put the file 4602dbte1_8.bin in the TFTP server and started the 4602 phone... (Actually the file Shaun sent me was 4602dbte1_82.bin which I renamed to 4602dbte1_8.bin)

1) Immediately the phone started downloading the file and updating with 4602dbte1_8.bin

2) As soon as it was finished it restarted and the phone was asking for another file : 4602sbte1_8.bin

3) Not knowing what to do, I copied the file 4602dbte1_8.bin and renamed it to 4602sbte1_8.bin.

4) I restarted the phone and it downloaded and updated with the new file 4602sbte1_8.bin (which was actually a copy of 4602dbte1_8.bin)

5) As soon as it restarted, the phone asked for another file : 4602sape1_8.bin

6) Again not knowing what to do, I copied the file 4602dbte1_8.bin and renamed it to 4602sape1_8.bin

7) I restarted the phone and it downloaded and updated with the new file 4602sape1_8.bin (which was actually a copy of 4602dbte1_8.bin)

8) After that each time I restarted the phone, it would cycle between downloading and updating with file 4602sbte1_8.bin and 4602sape1_8.bin (neither of which I had, but I thought I had tricked the phone by copying 4602dbte1_8.bin and renaming it to 4602sbte1_8.bin and 4602sape1_8.bin) It didn't work and the phone never worked...

So now, I think I need files : 4602sbte1_8.bin and 4602sape1_8.bin
in order to make it work...

Anyone have these files and could share them with me ?

Many thanks !!!!

Makis

I don't have those files but I have attached the other files for the newer software including the 46xxupgrade.scr. If you put the relevant parts in yours, these should be sufficient and 4602sape1_8.bin won't be needed.

Don't rename them - just update 46xxupgrade.scr to point to the correct versions.

(caveat being that will upgrade your other phones but may not be a bad thing!)

Hi Shaun !!

Thank you once again for all your help !!!

I deleted the old and copied your latest 3 files to the TFTP server and immediately once I started the 4602 phone it downloaded first the 46xxupgrade.scr file.

1) Completed file 46xxupgrade.scr
2) Transmission failed could not find 46xxsettings.txt
3) Completed file 4602sbte1_82.bin
4) It restarts
5) Again completed file 46xxupgrade.scr
6) Again Transmission failed could not find 46xxsettings.txt
7) Transmission failed could not find cvt02sw_2_3.bin
... and it repeats the message that it cannot find file cvt02sw_2_3.bin

Do you have any idea what this file cvt02sw_2_3.bin is ?

Thanks for your patience and your help !!

Makis

I googled and I think I found the file I was looking for... Tomorrow I will test it...

Glad you managed to find it! I did have that file if you couldn't find it.

It's been so long since I've ran these phones that I don't have the original zip files and there's about 5,500 files on my TFTP server that have built up over the past 15 years so making sure I get all the files can be challenging! :)

Good news !!!

I couldn't wait until tomorrow, so I went tonight and uploaded the file cvt02sw_2_3.bin

Next the phone asked for file b02d01b2_3.bin which I found and uploaded.

And finally the phone asked for file a02d01b2_3.bin which I also found and uploaded.

After that... IT FINALLY WORKED !!!!

I am very happy with the result, because it would have sucked if the 4602 phone I bought from Ebay didn't work...

Soon I will be installing a new PBX on another site Avaya IP500v2 Gateway with J129 phones...

But for the existing site I needed to get this 4602 working...

I guess technology keeps moving forward, but keeping older technology working is also deeply satisfying...

Thanks again Shaun !!

The J129 has also been discontinued by Avaya. Move to the J139 which at least is still sold and a much better model.

I just checked. Looks like Avaya discontinued the J129 in June 2021 but then introduced a new model in Dec 2023.

Hello again !!!

This time I am experiencing a different problem with a different Avaya 4602 IP telephone device.

This telephone was working just fine for over 10 years and suddenly it started displaying the message "Discover 192.168.2.80"

No matter how many times I restarted the phone or switched ethernet port on the network it kept showing the same message.

I connected the phone to the TFTP server and uploaded the proper files that other phone work with... but the same problem...

I reset the phone multiple times using the reset codes HOLD CLEAR (25327) but no luck...

Now whan I start the phone it says : Loading a02d01b2.bin
It says "Starting..."
Looks for "46xxupgrade.scr" (I switch TFTP off)
"HTTPS 1 -905"
Looks for TFTP
"Registering..."
"Discover 192.168.2.80"

and gets stuck there...

Any ideas ?
