we just implemented this option on a 4600 IP phone and it works great. the problem is the phone is in a VP's house and backlight does not time out. Making this room illluminate all night. I checked the 46xxsetting.txt file an it is activated for two minutes, and it works on the non vpn phones. I added the command "set baklightoff 2" to the bottom of the 46VPNsettings.txt and it made no difference.

any suggestions ???

A couple of years back when daylight savings time was changed, Avaya made a quick update to the 4600 MIB to accommodate the change and all the private MIB variables that followed were messed up. Unfortunately the backlight was one of the victims and cannot be controlled. I don’t know if a later version corrected the problem before they end-of-life the phone.

Yes, here is a highly technical solution to the problem:

What you do is, get a black hat, or piece of cloth, and place it over the phones display at night. This is %100 effective, and never requires any type of software or firmware upgrade :)
