Good afternoon,

I have a laserjet 4550 which prints blank pages. Everything is blank--internal configuration sheets as well as network print jobs. Have tried replacing the Transfer Kit as well as the fuser and drum--no luck. Checked contacts/sensor on ITB, appear to be ok. All toner cartridges appear to still have supply left. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated--thanks!

Are there any status errors displayed on the display ?
Check your configuration using the control panel and display.

No--that's the 'fun' part about this problem. No error messages---as far as the printer's concerned, it thinks it's printing properly. All control panel settings have been verified. Printing a configuration page is impossible, as all sheets print out blank....:<

There is a service note allocated to this problem. Check the HP website to get the service note to be reimbursed. The part you will change out is the TRANSFER BELT ASSY. If you are getting blank pages continuously when printing the Config page that is the reason why. Hope this helps.

Correction on my part---Part to be replaced is ITB ASSEMBLY----was thinking of another machine---Sorry!

Sorry its really late for me....I just corrected myself and I was right with both replies....ITB is Transfer Belt---i really need more sleep---But definetely check the HP site I think the Service note is good until June 2004.

Unfortunately, one of the first things I did was to replace the ITB/Transfer kit, which didn't correct the problem.

Have you tried an Engine Test Page? There is a small hole on the side of the printer (upper right front, I think) that you can put a paper clip into that will depress a button that prints a series of colored lines. Although it does indeed sound like print engine trouble instead of formatter trouble, it might be a good idea to double-check.

I am having a similiar problem. The printer did the same thing printing out blank pages. Although it seems to only print the blank pages for about 10 minutes or so. After it has been on for that long it seems to start printing fine. But if you power it off and start it back up. It again just prints only blank pages for about 10-15 minutes. Then seems to start working again.

Ive noticed in some other posts that there is a known issue with the ITB assembly and HP will replace it, but it sounds like you already did that without fixing the problem.

Anyone found any other solutions?

Hey Now.
Have you checked to see it the transfer roller is in place? Has the unit been dropped? Check the solonoid in the lower front left, may have slipped off it's notch.
Is there any paper debris inside the ITB connector?
It is possible the Developing PCB is out, but you would get an error. Part is:RG5-5180

guitarjohnson, I have a 4550 with the exact same problem. Did you ever find a resolve to this ?

there are two common causes for this problem
1. the ITB fault which is well known to HP and i see you have already followed this up
2. a broken pin on the carousel drive gear assembly.
this causes the drive gear not to be engaged and as such the developer rollers dont turn. you can proove this by getting access to each of the toner rollers in turn and rotating them a little then running a test print. you will find that the first page has a little print on it and subsequent pages are blank.
