We are experiencing problems trying to exchange emails between two domains - brombergs.com and gleimjewelers.com. The emails seem to be getting delayed somewhere in between the two domains and resulting in 451 timeout errors (see excerpts below). Each domain can send and receive emails from other domains without a problem, it's just emails going directly to and from these two domains that are experiencing problems.

Any ideas?

Hello trbyrne,

With the information that you have supplied, I can see a couple of things that could be a combination issue for you. There are many things that can play into this issue, but I would like to offer some suggestions on things to look at.

First, all email TO the gleimjewelers.com domain is routed through postini for Spam filtering prior to delivery to their mail server. You may need to look at that as a possible cause.

Second, the message you are receiving back when attempting a message to brombergs.com is an indication of either "Grey Listing" or the receiving server at brombergs.com blocking SMTP connections from your email server.

If you have access to the Email server sending your messages from gleimjewelers.com you could attempt a Telnet connection test as this would give a better indication of any SMTP connection blocking that could be occurring.

Here is a link to an article that shows how to run a Telnet test, just attempt a connection from your email server (gleimjewelers.com) to the receiving email server for brombergs.com and see if you receive any further information regarding the SMTP connection. This could be a very good indicator of the root cause, or at least give you a better indication of the actual issue.

How to run a Telnet test:

Hope that helps to move you in the right direction to resolution.
